Wednesday’s Numbers

By fred | January 3, 2008

So, what happened last night besides the late night shows ? Before going there, just a quick word about those late night shows : it seems that lots of people were interested into seeing some fresh new episodes, and as one could have suspected they more interested by the writer-less shows than the other, as the former grew over the pre-strike numbers more than Letterman or Ferguson did.

That said, I really hope this was only a special occasion, to see what would happen what they’d do, but that from now on and in support of the writers, people will stay away from any shows without writers, because if you don’t you’re helping the networks into making this damned strike last longer…

Anyhow, games and reality TV were all over the place, and crap : they did well. In fact, it’s funny to see that while CBS was known to have dramas that repeat well, which is why they might not have been as worried as, say, ABC, lately their shows haven’t done too good in rerun. Take last night for example, Criminal Minds only did a little 7.9 million, beaten by ABC’s reality crap (Supernanny, 8.9 million) and CSI: New-York finished last on its slot with no more than 6.5 million viewers.

Sure, they have Jericho in store, (and their late nights shows are back with writers,) but maybe they should start to worry a little more.

While Fox on the night on the 18-49 demo thanks to its Fiesta Bowl, NBC won in total viewers, thanks to the two-hour return of Law & Order, scoring 13.4 million viewers (though a low relatively 3.8 on the 18-49 demo). It might be the 18th season of the show, but it’s still as strong as ever. In fact, it did better than the average results of lats season (9.3 million) or last year’s season premiere (11.1 million)

Let’s also mention Gossip Girl, which had a new episode last night and more people were aware of it than for its Christmas special back in December, which had fallen below the 2 million viewers. Last night the rich kids from the upper east side had 400 000 more people watching (2.2 million), and the show even grew from its poor lead-in by 300 000 viewers !
