Wednesday’s Numbers

By fred | January 31, 2008

You’ll hear that American Idol is still bleeding, down from 31.4 million last season to 24.2 million viewers last night, but that still makes it a winner. We all know Nielsen ratings are completely out of touch with the actual reality of what people really watch on TV, I wonder how wrong they are about Idol too. Anyways, it may not be doing as good as it used to, but Fox still blew away all the competition and over the night had almost as much viewers as all other networks combined. So you can tell Fox how Idol is bleeding all you want, they’ll still laugh at you…

But the “big” thing of the night was the rerun of last season finale of Lost on ABC, in that “enhanced” version. From what I’ve heard, cause no, I didn’t get to watch it, it was pretty awful, with stupid comments like “Jack is depressed“. In other words, fans were somewhere from bored to annoyed, newcomers were insulted and treated as morons, and didn’t learn anything.

But if you forgot about that and only watched the actual episode, it was two of the best hours television ever had to offer, and it actually did pretty good, doing better than any other rerun on ABC this season with 8.5 million viewers and a strong 3.4 on the 18-49 demo, putting ABC on the second place on the demo for the night. Best of all, Lost was extremely consistent throughout the night, which might be a sign that we’re in for a quite strong fourth season ! More on that tomorrow, obviously.
