Wednesday’s Numbers [10.29.2008]

By fred | October 30, 2008

NumbersLast night was the famous night with Barack Obama’s Paid Political Message on the air for half an hour on a few networks, including three of the big four, as ABC kept its usual lineup. It was a success evidently, as over 27 million viewers did watch Obama. Most of them did so on NBC, who could enjoy something that could get almost 10 million viewers and a 3.0 on the demo — surely Knight Rider isn’t gonna do any such thing.

But if Obama was the least watched on Fox, the net has all the reason to be happy nonetheless, as they won the night easily thanks to the World Series, with 14.49 million viewers overnight and a 4.7 on the demo.

At 8.00 besides Obama there was Pushing Daisies of course, and it did help the show to finally go up and get no less than its season high with 6.64 million viewers and a 2.2 on the demo. So in the end it worked out to be good for the pie maker, but still those are not numbers that will please the Alphabet. After all, Pushing Daisies remained last on its slot except for The CW.

At 9.00 and facing the World Series (16.68 million viewers, 5.4 on the demo), Criminal Minds did pretty good (though it lost 900 000 viewers and got a season low) with still 13.80 million viewers and a 3.4 on the demo. On ABC Private Practice was also down, though it only lost 100 000 viewers with 7.73 million of them and 2.8 on the demo.

At 10.00 CSI: New-York had a season low as well, but still maintained a very good retention out of Criminal Minds with 13.63 million viewers (99%) and a 3.4 on the demo (100%)

On ABC Dirty Sexy Money managed to not to like all the others and go up, back above 6 million viewers (6.08 million) and still a 2.0 on the demo. For its last airing on a Wednesday, Lipstick Jungle actually also went up, 700 000 more viewers than a week ago (4.90 million) and 1.9 on the demo. With such low results on a Wednesday, chances are it will be worst on Friday nights, and NBC will cancel the show rapidly.
