Wednesday’s Numbers [10.08.2008]

By fred | October 9, 2008

NumbersThe Eye was a clear winner last night, being the only network to average over 10 million viewers with a shinny 13.09 million, while the closest was Fox and only 7.40 million ! Same thing on the demo, where CBS scored a 3.6 while Fox came next with 2.4

In other words, things are going well for CBS. New Adventures Of Old Christine scored a season high with 7.64 million viewers (about 700 000 more viewers than a week ago), though it stayed about the same on the demo. Lead-out Gary Unmarried was also doing better, 400 000 more viewers than last week for a total of 7.43 million viewers, and still performing better than its lead-in on the demo (2.3 vs 2.1)

Things are still depressing when it comes down to Knight Rider vs Pushing Daisies, because the former still does better, though no one does good really. Knight Rider had 1.2 million more viewers than Pushing Daisies, but was also losing more. Almost one million viewers were gone from NBC since last week (6.7 M vs 7.6 M), while Pushing Daisies was also going down, losing 700 000 viewers. Only 5.55 million and 2.0 on the demo for the pie maker, that’s really not good.

Where did all those viewers went ? Maybe on Fox, where Bones is still doing better than ever, with a season-high and 10.34 million viewers (up half a million viewers since last week). Bones was the winner of its slot, both in total viewers as well as on the demo. And all that for what ? Til Death! The show that didn’t even keep 5 million viewer for its first episode (4.97 million), while in its last half-hour Bones had 10.80 million viewers ! (And I hear Bones might have gone a little over 9.00 so Til Death retention might even be lower, see second episode which couldn’t keep million viewers!)

Now I don’t know why the fuck Fox wants to keep Til Death on the air, but so be it. Still, I say move it to Fridays or something, and let’s bring Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Wednesdays at 9.00 The show is struggling on Mondays right now, it’s a fact, and I’m sure it could do better on Wednesday, especially with such a strong lead-in as Bones. I don’t know how much the audience of those two shows are the same, but I watch and love both series. Who’s with me?

Moving on, at 9.00 there was no real competition for Criminal Minds, with a season high of 15.90 million viewers (1.4 million more viewers than a week ago) and a 4.3 on the demo. On ABC the bad news keep coming in, as Private Practice was down 800 000 viewers to 7.26 million and 2.5 on the demo. And it wasn’t going to get any better, because Dirty Sexy Money lost 1.2 million viewers since last week, with only 5.95 million viewers and 2.0 on the demo. Let’s hear again why it was a good idea for all the new series of 2007 not to return after the strike, but to stay away for 10 months ?!

Of course CSI: New-York won the slot easily, with 15.86 million viewers (up 1.2 million viewers) and 4.3 on the demo — that’s some excellent retention out of Criminal Minds, you know, about 100%.

Meanwhile on NBC Lipstick Jungle fell below the 5 million mark, with 4.77 million viewers. It did stay stable on the demo, but that’s still only a 1.9
