Wednesday’s Numbers [10.01.2008]
By fred | October 2, 2008
Last night was a night of season premiere for ABC, all three of their Wednesday series returning for their sophomore seasons, and sadly it didn’t get the results they were hoping for, I’m guessing. CBS was a clear winner of the night, only network to average over 10 million viewers with 12.03 million. The Eye was also first on the demo with 3.3 leaving all other networks quite close, from 2.6 (ABC) to 2.4 (Fox)
At 8.00 things started well for Fox as the latest installment of Bones was up 200 000 viewers since last week, winning the slot with 9.82 million viewers and a 3.2 on the demo. Things are going well for this very nice and underrated show. Now for the most depressing news of the night, not only was Pushing Daisies not doing so well, but it got beaten by Knight Rider !!
Seriously America, what the Hell is that ? Tell me either Nielsen is completely out of touch with reality, or just wanted to see how bad things could get on NBC or something, please ?? Knight Rider was actually up (!), gaining 300 000 viewers since last week to a total of 7.56 million viewers and 2.4 on the demo.
Then came the CBS comedies, both gaining viewers. First a new episode of Gary Unmarried with 6.98 million viewers, 2.2 on the demo, and New Adventures Of Old Christine with 6.86 million viewers and 2.0
Only the, came Pushing Daisies, with merely 6.32 million viewers and a 2.0 on the demo. That’s really not good. Last season, the show premiered with 13.03 million viewers and 4.3 on the demo; and ended with 6.85 million viewers and a 2.4 on the demo. I guess nine months away really damaged things. What’s even more worrying might be the drop of 780 000 viewers (6.71 to 5.93 million) in the second half hour.
At 9.00 Criminal Minds might have lost some viewers since a week ago, but with 14.51 million viewers and a 3.8 on the demo it was the most-watched program of the night, so things are still going very well for Rossi and his team.
Private Practice returned with 8.05 million fans, which sure is way down the 14.41 million of the series premiere last season, as well as 2.4 million less than for last season finale (10.36 million), also a nice growth out of Pushing Daisies (5.93 million for its second half-hour) with over 2 more million viewers. Same goes on the demo where the show went as high as 3.3 — much like America’s Got Talent, though there were 4.5 million more viewers in front of NBC.
Also, Til Death is still losing viewers, though it’s doing better than Do Not Disturb so at least there’s that.
Finally at 10.00 Dirty Sexy Money was back with 7.15 million viewers and 2.5 on the demo, way down the 14.67 million (4.2 on the demo) of CSI: New-York but much better than Lipstick Jungle’s poor performance with 5.31 million viewers and a 1.9 on the demo. It should also be noted that while the show was down from its series premiere (10.44 million, 3.6) if was actually up from last season finale (6.91 million, 2.4).
