Tuesday’s Numbers

Last night was the fight of the reality TV contests : American Idol on Fox, versus Dancing With The Stars on ABC. Both shows are popular, but there was no real question as to which is the most popular of the two : Fox was a clear winner of the night, with more than twice as many viewers as ABC, and doing on the demo more than three times what the Alphabet did.

At 8.00 American Idol was alone, and had more viewers any program that night with 27.2 million viewers. Still, CBS hold strong with a rerun of NCIS managing to be watched by 10.5 million viewers. Pretty good, especially for a rerun.

At 9.00 was the big clash, and if Idol lost a few viewers down to 26.8 million, it was still more than 10 million more viewers than Dancing With The Stars did on ABC (15.2 million) But the real crushing was on the demo. While Idol grew to 10.5, DWTS couldn’t go any higher than 3.5

Meanwhile on The CW, the new episode of One Tree Hill managed to grew by 400 000 viewers since last week, a pretty impressive thing to do considering the competition on both Fox and ABC.

At 10.00 Dancing With The Stars was freed from the competition and grew to 20 million viewers, and improved nicely on the demo as well (5.1) Meanwhile on CBS, Jericho managed to loose some viewers again (though it slightly improved on the demo), so it would be a real surprise that CBS would renew the show for another season. At 10.30 also premiered the new sitcom Miss Guided, and it’s pretty much already dead.

Sure, with close to 10 million viewers it did much better than, say, Jericho. But with a lead-in having more than twice as many viewers, that’s a huge failure.
