Tuesday’s Numbers

By fred | March 12, 2008

Once again, two words to sum up the night : American Idol. At this point it’s not just by far the most-watched program of the night, it’s pretty much the only one watched. While Fox reality show was followed by over 31 million viewers at 9.00, there is simply no other program last night that even reached 9 million viewers !

Yes, Idol was at least watched three times more than anything else ! To tell you how exciting the night was, I could add that coming the closest was no other than a rerun (Law & Order: SVU, 9.4 million).

Fox is definitely not playing at the same level as the big three networks are. I mean, Fox was watched by over three and a half times as many viewers as its nearest competitor, NBC; more than five times as many as ABC… And that’s not just in total viewers, the same could be said on the 18-49 demo, only there Fox did six times better than ABC or CBS.

At this point, what else is there to say… maybe mention Jericho, the show everyone fought to get back on the air, and then forgot about and never watched it Once it did indeed came back. What’s going on there, could Nielsens be so wrong ??

Anyways, this episode did pretty much as bad as last week, with 5.9 million viewers only and a low 1.9 on the demo. I think the problem with this show is that the first season was way less good than the second is, and most viewers heard it was canceled and never returned, despite the nuts campaign or the very much improved second season.

Also, CBS clearly had no faith in the show, because Tuesdays at 10.00 isn’t the best they could have done for the show, especially in this post-strike world where they have nights after night of reruns… No the only hope is that either Sci-Fi or The CW would be interested in giving the show a few more seasons.

All numbers of the night after the jump :
