Tuesday’s Numbers
By fred | February 13, 2008
Of course, American Idol blew any competition away, doing even better than last week, and so Fox won the night hands down. But we don’t care, no what we care about is the return of Jericho, of course.
As you know the CBS drama was back for a second season, which premiered last night. And I’m sorry to say, it looks bad. And I do not mean that I’m disappointed by the numbers, even though I am, no I mean it actually looks bad. And I’m sure people will say how we need to take into action DVR watching, because it aired late, and that’s not false; I’m sure they’ll mention how the episode had been leaked on the Internet, and that’s not false either.
But still, forced to admit, it looks bad.
Last season during its first half Jericho averaged around 11 million viewers. Then, CBS killed it by imposing a long hiatus without promo or reruns, we all know the story. During its second half, which got the show canceled, there was about 8 million viewers in average. So when last night season 2 premiere was only watched by 7.2 million viewers, being last on its time slot, we can see how bad this looks.
Sure, it didn’t do as bad on the 18-49 demo, coming second with 2.5, which is better than the second half of last season got (around 2.0) Still it got beaten by a rerun on NBC scoring a 2.6 And looking at numbers like that, it seems that Jericho (CBS) and Boston Legal (ABC) were both watched by about 7.2 million viewers, maybe a little more for ABC drama, but Jericho performed much better on the demo (2.5 vs 1.8)
Right. Just remember that Boston Legal used to do much better, back when there was no strike, and Dancing With The Stars as lead-in. Back then, the show had around and sometimes more than 10 million viewers and close to a 3.0 on the demo. So yeah, those two were close tonight, meaning the two of them aren’t performing good and are in trouble. Only this was Jericho’s big return !
Jericho’s series premiere was followed by 11.7 million viewers. The season finale had lost 4 millions of them, down to 7.7 million viewers. This season is premiere with half a million less viewers, so unless it suddenly gets a lot better in the next weeks, there won’t be no third season. Which really sucks, because this new season looks pretty good!
