Tuesday’s Numbers [12.02.2008]

Last week with a finale of Dancing With The Stars ABC had a great night, but this time things were quite different. Some things don’t change, though, and that why we find CBS winner in total viewers while Fox took the demo.
Just as what happened at 8.00 where NCIS had 18.54 million viewers (+300 000) while House “only” had 12.37 million (-100 000), but the medical drama pulled a 5.0 on the demo versus only 3.7 for CBS drama. Meanwhile ABC had its best performance of the night with a rerun of Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, and 8.98 million viewers (3.1 on the demo).
At 9.00 there’s simply no question : The Mentalist is the hit of the season. With ABC out of the way the show went up (+2.9 million) to a new series high with 18.77 million viewers, growing from its lead-in, and it also beat Fringe on the demo (3.8 vs 3.7) Sure, Fringe pulled such results with quite less viewers (8.69 million), but the fact and the matter is, The Mentalist was the most-watched program of the night, and if it wasn’t for House would be the winner on the demo as well.
Of course when Fringe will return, it’ll have American Idol as lead-in so expect numbers to go high and Fox to be happy, but the truth is the show isn’t really a hit, and let’s face it, has been disappointing creatively.
ABC had the return of According To Jim, with 6.15 million viewers and 9.00 and only 5.51 million left for the second episode. Not good, but the thing is with Dancing as lead-in Eli Stone was not looking good already, now it dropped to a new series low with 4.93 million viewers and 1.6 on the demo ! Looking at those numbers, According To Jim with 6 million and a 2.1 on the demo, was doing fine.
Also at 10.00 was Without A Trace with 12.20 million viewers, about the same as it did two weeks ago (when no Dancing With The Stars Finale was opposing), though it scored a season low again with 2.5 on the demo. On NBC Law & Order: SVU managed to pull a season high with 10.31 million viewers, but was slightly down on the demo (3.6 vs 3.8 two weeks ago)
