Tuesday’s Numbers [10.28.2008]

Last night, Fox only had a new episode of House to offer, as Fringe was on rerun mode. The network was only third in total viewers overnight, below 10 million viewers (9.55 M), and even if House doesn’t perform as well as it once did, don’t think it isn’t a hit anymore. Fox won the demo thanks to the cranky doctor, that’s how strong the show remains.
At 8.00 NCIS might have remained stable as most-watched program of the night with 17.08 million viewers, House managed to go up with 13.15 million viewers, and more importantly scored a 5.3 on the demo. That was enough to win the night for Fox, and while it might not be a 7, when the next best thing any show could do that night is 3.8 it just means TV ain’t doing as well as it was doing before, but House is still what it was — a hit.
Meanwhile on The CW a new 90210 had 100 000 more viewers than last episode did on October 7th, so it’s all good.
At 9.00 The Mentalist was second with 16.11 million viewers to the 17.00 million of Dancing With The Stars, but the more important news is that this was a new series high for the new drama, which managed to improve on the demo from its lead-in (3.8 vs 3.4 for NCIS) winning the slot with ABC’s dance show. No doubt The Mentalist is the big hit of the season, which also means this season doesn’t really have a one, big hit.
On The CW, Privileged was up 700 000 viewers after a series low last week, 2.16 million viewers and 1.1 on the demo. Good, but really not great, and sadly might not be enough to get a pick up.
A little note on Fringe, where the rerun had a 2.5 on the demo, a score many shows this years would dream to get for a first airing.
At 10.00 Without A Trace managed to get back above 12 million viewers (12.14 M), and got one of its best result on the demo with a 2.9 As usual though, Law & Order: SVU might have had 3 million less viewers (9.20 M), it won the slot on the demo with a nice 3.4 — which is actually a season low for the show.
Sadly, Eli Stone was last again, not even reaching 8 million viewers (7.67 M) and barely getting a 2.0 on the demo. Needless to say this really isn’t good. Retention out of Dancing With The Stars is merely 45%, after 53% last week and 61% two weeks ago. At that speed, the show is off schedule by next week, and it really deserves better. It’s obvious it doesn’t fit out of Dancing since, as it turns out, a little singing and dancing from time to time doesn’t make it a perfect match (!), so maybe ABC should consider moving it…
