Tuesday’s Numbers [10.21.2008]

As usually on a Tuesday night, CBS was the most-watched network last night, and while Fox only made it to the third place that didn’t stop it from winning the demo, thanks to the good combo House/Fringe.
NCIS was the most-watched program of the night, with 17.06 million viewers, despite losing about 800 000 viewers. In the mean time House was getting a little more viewers than last week for some girl-on-girl action (about 100 000 more viewers), and a very nice bump on the demo with a result as good as the season premiere did, a season high (5.6), though it had 1.5 million more viewers.
At 9.00 Dancing With The Stars Results won the slot with 16.02 million viewers, but The Mentalist confirmed its hit status with a very good retention out of NCIS : 15.29 million viewers (90%) and 3.5 on the demo (97%). On Fox a very good episode of Fringe and yet less viewers than last week : 400 000 less viewers. Only 9.11 million viewers but still a nice 4.0 on the demo, making it a winner for the slot.
I don’t know why they did it, but it was obviously a very bad move from The CW to put a new episode of Privileged, already struggling, after a rerun of 90210. The show did improve from its lead-in (thank God) but with 1.47 million viewers and 0.7 on the demo, that was a predictable series low.
At 10.00 Without A Trace had 600 000 more viewers than a week ago, and again won the slot with 11.60 million viewers this time. But as always Law & Order: SVU took the demo despite only 9.35 million viewers, with a season low at 3.5
Bad news for Eli Stone, because the show lost 300 000 viewers since its premiere, with 8.51 million viewers and a 2.2 on the demo is no good when your lead-in had over 16 million viewers and a 3.8 ! Worse, the show lost 2.28 million viewers from its first to second half hour, from 9.65 million to 7.37 million viewers (and from 2.5 to 1.9 on the demo) !
Things aren’t looking good for Eli Stone. With such a poor retention the show probably won’t stay there for long, and I do wonder if it might not be a good idea to couple it with Pushing Daisies somehow… ?
