Tuesday’s Numbers [09.23.2008]
By fred | September 24, 2008
First Tuesday of the season was won by CBS, with a close second for ABC - 14.88 million vs 14.34 million viewers. But while Fox was a little below with 10.90 million viewers, they won the night on the demo with a shinny 4.5 The biggest (only?) loser of the night was with no contest NBC, with only 7.96 million viewers and a 3.2 on the demo.
At 8.00 CBS was back with their rating-hit NCIS, which managed to gain 4 million viewers over last season’s premiere. With 17.72 million viewers, NCIS won its slot and was close to be the most-watched program of the night. On Fox our great doctor was affected by this, but not that much. House had a nice 12.13 million viewers and more importantly beat everything else on the demo, with a 5.0 making it the most-watched program of the night on the demo, tie with Dancing With The Stars at 10.00
Yes, House used to get over 18 million viewers last season, but it also came one hour later after the good and underrated Bones, now sent to Wednesdays.
On The CW and recently picked up 90210 was hitting a series low with only 2.69 million viewers, and that was the first time it didn’t each 3 million viewers. On the demo the show also fell, down to a 1.5
At 9.00 Dancing With The Stars was the winner, and most-watched program of the night, with 17.87 million viewers. Meanwhile on CBS it seems The Mentalist is a hit, with a solid retention from its lead-in (88%), the show averaged 15.55 million viewers ! Even better, it pulled a 3.5 on the demo, exactly the same as its lead-in.
With such hits it was only normal that Fringe would go down, and it did, back below the 10 million viewers. For its best episode to date the show averaged 9.65 million viewers and a 4.2 on the demo. Still a good retention from House, and strong results on the demo, so there’s no reason to be worried.
On The CW on the other hand there might be reasons, as Privileged was down to 1.86 million viewers, and a poor 0.9 on the demo. It’s now the less-performing show on The CW, and that’s not a good sign for things to come. Which sucks, because it’s really not the worst The CW has on the air…
At 10.00 Dancing With The Stars was winning the slot both in viewers and on the demo, making it more difficult for returning series to show what they’re truly capable of. Without A Trace had 11.39 million viewers, 3 million less than for its finale last season. Of course, by then the show had ratings-hit CSI as lead-in on Thursday night…
The show had close to 2 million more viewers than NBC’s Law & Order: SVU (9.52 million), but was beaten on the demo (2.8 vs 3.7)
