Thusday’s Numbers [10.23.2008]
By fred | October 24, 2008
Not your usual Thursday night lats night, and not just because Fox performed really well, “stealing” the second place thanks to the World Series. Sure it’s not catastrophic, but ABC isn’t doing all too well these days. Best example? While CSI remained the most-watched program of the night, as always, it actually beat Grey’s Anatomy on the demo as well (again)!
But first, at 8.00 Ugly Betty was doing a little better, with 400 000 more viewers and, more importantly, a bump on the demo. Not that 8.66 million viewers and a 2.8 on the demo is any satisfying. Meanwhile on NBC, My Name Is Earl got a little better but remains low with 6.33 million viewers and a 2.4 on the demo (a season low), but that’s nothing compared to the (unfunny) mess that is Kath & Kim, losing over a million viewers again, with 4.97 million viewers and a 2.2 on the demo.
But you know, such numbers and the project coming from Ben Silverman, I could see NBC picking it up for a full season… You go Ben!
Meanwhile on The CW, Smallville remained stable with 4.22 million viewers and 1.7 on the demo. Oh God, please, make it that next week more people watch The CW than NBC, please, that’d just put a smile on my face.
Anyays, at 9.00 CSI was the big winner of the night, with 19.17 million viewers (about 400 000 more than last week) and a 5.5 on the demo. Best news of all being than on ABC, Grey’s Anatomy was quite down, and couldn’t win the demo. With only 14.21 million viewers (about 400 000 less than last week) and a 5.4 on the demo (down from 5.8 last week) Grey’s Anatomy scored a season low, nothing to be proud of.
On NBC and despite another awesome episode The Office took a hit (again) down to 7.74 million viewers. Two weeks ago, the show still had 9.0 million viewers. Of course, the show remains strong on the demo (4.0) and, shall I remind you, comes after a very weak and unfunny lead-in.
On The CW and for another terrific episode, Supernatural was up with 3.25 million viewers and 1.3 on the demo, and really this show deserves so much better.
At 10.00 Eleventh Hour still doesn’t have the best retention out of CSI (63% in viewers, 58% on the demo) but was still the winner of the slot, with a series high at 12.16 million viewers, and a 3.2 on the demo, tie with E.R. on NBC, even if the medical drama had 3.5 million viewers less.
Coming in last was Life On Mars, with a new series low at 8.06 million viewers and 2.5 on the demo. Not looking good, not looking good at all… I guess ABC must be really impatient about 2009 and the comeback of Lost, as well as the future hit that will be (I hope) Castle.
