Thursday’s Numbers

Another Thursday night, so let’s have a look at the numbers again. And once more there’s no real interest in finding out which of all the reruns performed best (hint: it’s CSI), no what we care about are the two new series form Thursday night, which - thanks to smart network execs - have been put the same day at the same time.
Here it goes : Swingtown was down 1.2 million viewers since last week, yet managed to win its slot with 6.1 million viewers and 2.1 on the demo. Fear Itself did loose some viewers as well (200 000 of them) and was second, with 4.7 million viewers and a 1.5 on the demo.
And again, the way I look at this makes Swingtown a looser, and Fear Itself just not performing too good…
Yes, both shows never stopped loosing viewers from day one and clearly NBC’s anthology isn’t as watched as is CBS’ retro-series. But I will again mention how first, CBS is about always more watched than NBC and I guess have higher expectations than the Peacock, second, while both shows loose viewers Fear Itself managed to slow down on that road, and even stabilized things on the demo, and third when you look at their lead-ins, only one is actually loosing viewers, and that’s Swingtown.
This week, Swingtown lost 1.6 million viewers from its lead-in while Fear Itself gained 200 000 viewers. And if both improved in the demo (Swingtown getting a 2.1 from CSI’s 2.0 and Fear Itself getting a 1.5 from Last Comic Standing’s 1.3), CBS drama is still going down since last week. Here’s a recap for the first three episodes so far :
June 5th
Swingtown : 8.6 M (2.8)
Fear Itself : 5.2 M (2.0)
June 12th
Swingtown : 7.3 M (2.3) -16% (-18%)
Fear Itself : 4.9 M (1.5) -6% (-25%)
June 19th
Swingtown : 6.1 M (2.1) -16% (-9%)
Fear Itself : 4.7 M (1.5) -4% (=)
Finally, I’ll add that while overall a bit disappointing from the writing, Fear Itself has been kinda good so far, and is getting a little better each week. Swingtown on the other hand, well, to tell you the truth it’s still sitting on my DVR and, unlike with NBC’s anthology, somehow I don’t feel an urge to rush and see it.
