Thursday’s Numbers

By fred | May 2, 2008

Last night was the first Thursday of May, the second one of May Sweeps, and it seems that in May less people are watching TV. At least, they are less people than there was one week ago. NBC is actually the only network who gained viewers (400 000 viewers), all others either remained the same or lost viewers.

At 8.00 it started as last week with Survivor being the only program to break the 10 million viewers with 12.5 million of them, which is half a million less than a week ago. Last week Ugly Betty came second, with 8.5 million viewers. Things have changed now, and it came after Fox’s game with only 7.9 million viewers, though it did close to the same on the demo.

Meanwhile on NBC the counter went up, with 700 000 more viewers for My Name Is Earl and a stronger performance on the demo (2.8 vs 2.3), and Scrubs was also up 600 000 viewers, getting up as well on the demo with a 2.9, putting NBC before ABC (Ugly Betty, 2.4) on the demo at 8.00 At the same time on The CW Smallville did about the same as last week, though a little better on the demo.

At 9.00 it was of course CSI first in viewers, and Grey’s Anatomy on the demo. But while CSI went up by 1.1 million viewers and grew from a 4.6 to a 5.0 on the demo since last week, Grey’s Anatomy was down, loosing 900 000 viewers and a 6.0 on the demo (6.3 last week), making it about one of its worst performances ever.

On NBC The Office gained some viewers while 30 Rock lost some. The Office hold on the same on the demo, while 30 Rock went from a 2.8 to a 2.6 The episode was great, but sadly things aren’t too good for Tina Fey’s great sitcom. Meanwhile Supernatural was finally back with a good episode, and 200 000 more viewers than last week.

At 10.00 despite a stronger lead-in, Without A Trace lost 600 000 viewers, though performed the same on the demo. Lost won the hour on the demo with the same 4.8 as last week, though it did too loose viewers (1.2 million of them!) Not very good, but then again the whole ABC lineup lost viewers this week. On NBC however, except for 30 Rock, everything was up, E.R. gaining 300 000 viewers.
