Sunday’s Numbers
By fred | May 12, 2008
Well, interesting Sunday I guess. CBS had nothing but Survivor on, and that did well since it won the night, with 300 000 more viewers overnight than ABC, a close second and winner on the demo thanks to a new Desperate Housewives and a strong season finale from Brothers & Sisters. In other news, NBC must be glad they did what they did…
On Sundays they used to air episodes of Monk and Psych, shows which have already aired on USA Network. But the results weren’t too good, so they stopped and instead put two hours of reruns of The Office. In other words, they don’t really try on Sundays, and it shows : with 2.6 million viewers and a 0.9 on the demo, reruns of The Office performed much less than the USA shows used to, both in viewers and on the demo (last week from 8.00 to 10.00, Monk and Psych averaged 3.9 million viewers and 1.0 on the demo).
At 8.00 The Simpsons performed about the same as last week, except that with 200 000 viewers less (6.0 million) they didn’t actually reach 3.0 on the demo. Still the first show, right after Survivor and its 12.5 million viewers, and the 11.9 million in front of Extreme Makeover, of course.
At 9.00 Desperate Housewives was back, and 1.4 million viewers were not. It still was the most-watched program of the night, both in viewers and on the demo. Of course, it’s alarming how much they lost since the first episodes of the season, millions and millions of viewers are gone… In the mean time, DVR penetration has increased a lot since last year, and last year Desperate Housewives only had about half a million more viewers, so all things considered…
On Fox Family Guy was a rerun, but it still performed better than anything else (not counting Desperate Housewives or Survivor obviously), including a new American Dad loosing 600 000 viewers since last week.
Finally at 10.00 and for its season finale, Brothers & Sisters performed quite well, with 11.0 million viewers and a 4.0 on the demo. Last week the show did about the same (11.0 million, 3.9) but its lead-in performed better, and there was no Survivor on CBS with 10.8 million viewers at the time, just an episode of Showtime’s Dexter with 6.6 million viewers. So clearly, the show is doing pretty well!
NBC ended its night with yet another rerun, Law & Order: SVU, with 5.6 million viewers. The rerun was down 700 000 viewers, but given the competition it’s good it wasn’t a lot worse.
