Sunday’s Numbers [10.05.2008]
By fred | October 6, 2008
Please note that due to an estimated half-hour football overrun at 7.00 all program results for CBS are approximate.
So last night was the big premiere, a there was something new on a Sunday night on The CW. Did you watched ? Were you curious as to what Media Rights Capital came up with ? I’m guessing no… The CW had even lowered results than they usually do an Sunday nights with nothing but reruns!
At 8.00 and forgetting about Sunday Night Football which was still a major hit, making NBC winner of the night on the demo (4.8), Extreme Makeover or Amazing Race - all going over 10 million viewers. Still an indication that all program were down, as last week NBC averaged a 5.6 on the demo.
On Fox The Simpsons were down, getting close to 2 million less viewers than a week ago (7.43 million vs 9.30 million). King Of The Hill was down as well, but didn’t lose as much with 6.57 million viewers compared to 7.04 million last week. At 9.00 Family Guy was also down but hold better, with 8.42 million viewers and a 4.3 on the demo (last week there were 9.20 million, 4.5 on the demo).
What we’re all curious about now, on The CW was the series premiere of Valentine, followed by only 1.10 million viewers ! That’s not just low, that’s very low, even for The CW on a Sunday night. For the record, last week a rerun of Privileged managed to have 1.22 million viewers. And what about the demo? Valentine only had a 0.3 for its series premiere (0.6 for Privileged last week).
At 9.00 followed the series premiere of Easy Money, and it got even worse with only 1.08 million viewers where a rerun of America’s Next Top Model had 360 000 more viewers. And it’s not the little improvement on the demo (0.4) from its lead-in that will change anything, this is a total disaster. This week and with In Harm’s Way, the other MRC new program of the night, only watched by 676 000 viewers at 7.00, The CW couldn’t even average one million viewers.
Meanwhile Desperate Housewives was the most-watched program of the night in viewers and on the demo, despite almost 3 million less viewers than a week ago. Quite a drop for the ABC hit, and the same was true for Brothers & Sisters down to 10.62 million, 1.7 million less than one week ago. That’s a huge drop, especially so soon in the season.
On CBS the shows were more stable it seems, Cold Case losing only 200 000 viewers over last week with 11.04 million viewers but a little improvement on the demo, while The Unit still had good retention with 9.43 million viewers and 2.6 on the demo.
