Monday’s Numbers
By fred | September 9, 2008
Last night was a big night already, even though many networks aren’t airing much yet. At least one of them is kicking at full rate : Fox. Now that Terminator returned, the network has its full line up back in motion, and the results really aren’t all that good. Sure, Fox won the night on the demo, but it come in third in total viewers, with 1 million less viewers that winner NBC.
Okay, first things first : Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles opened its sophomore season last night, and results are quite mixed, not very encouraging. While the show managed to win its slot on the demo, it was way behind Deal Or No Deal in total viewers (6.3 million vs 9.6 million). More importantly, last season’s finale was watched by over 8 million viewers !
That means the show lost two million viewers since it ended its first run. Now of course, there are still less people watching TV nowadays than once the season will be fully back on (and DVRs are burning), but at the same time the competition will be a lot tougher than a game, a bunch of reruns and Gossip Girl.
Not to worry if you love the show though, because I don’t think it’s in trouble already. Yes, the loss is important and it would be really good to see those numbers go up in the coming weeks, (and yes, Summer Glau is more than worth it, and so is the show,) but it still won its slot on the demo and a movie is coming up, so Fox won’t pull the plug any time soon.
While things aren’t all well for Fox, still a bug smile for the people at The CW : Gossip Girl was once again a big success with more than 3 million viewers (3.2 million, 1.6 on the demo), one again one of the best score for the series ever. Followed by a One Tree Hill that managed to keep all of those viewers in and slightly improve on the demo, things are pretty great there.
Back on Fox, at 9.00 and for its third Prison Break did as expected : 6.5 million viewers and 2.6 on the demo. That is much less than last season, but very much like last week, meaning the show will probably be able to hold on to 6.5 million viewers all the way through, and if it can with tougher competition that should be good enough to at least end this season.
