Monday’s Numbers

By fred | May 20, 2008

NumbersWell, as you could have expected it, Fox had a really good night, with two season finale of two great shows : Bones and demo-winner House. The total numbers overnight per network, both in viewers and on the demo, are a bit weird (numbers from Marc Berman’s report are apparently wrong, other estimates have been used here) but there’s no question that Fox took the demo, thanks to the good doctor.

At 8.00 it was quite a few finale all at once, and in the end the one who suffered were CBS’ comedies. Of course, facing Dancing With The Stars and the 18.8 million viewers (most-watched program of the night) and Bones and the 10.2 million of fans horrified over that awful finale (I’ll probably post later about that…), it wasn’t easy.

Usually you expect finale to go up, but not here (Note to CBS: maybe next time you’ll have the finale come in one week earlier, just an idea). The Big Bang Theory was down half a million viewers, to 7.4 million and a 2.7 on the demo, while How I Met Your Mother took a hit with 1.1 million less viewers, though it remained above 3.0 on the demo (3.2)

For the record, How I Met Your Mother was only down by half a million as well compared to two weeks ago, last week being that little Britney mess. So while getting below 8 million viewers isn’t the best (7.9 million), considering the competition it’s not awful either I guess.

Meanwhile Gossip Girl managed to do things better, up by 400 000 viewers scoring 3.0 million fans watching (and loving, I’m sure) the season finale.

At 9.00 no one could resist the terrific Hugh Laurie, and House was the winner of the night on the demo with a 5.7, as 16.2 million viewers were watching. Oddly enough, while the show was up by 1.4 million viewers, it was actually down on the demo (5.7 vs 5.8) since last week (and the first part).

On CBS, Two And A Half Men was up 1.1 million viewers to 14.8 million, but also down on the demo (4.8 vs 5.0) Rules Of Engagement broke the scheme, being up both in viewers and on the demo, with 12.2 million viewers and a 4.3 Meanwhile on The CW the season finale of One Tree Hill also managed to grow, from its lead-in as well as over last week, with 3.2 million viewers and a 1.5 on the demo.

Finally at 10.00 CSI: Miami ended its season with 2.4 million more viewers (16.1 million), while NBC surely misses Medium, which last week only had 8.6 million viewers (though usually does better), whereas Dateline could only get 4.9 million viewers. Not that NBC was really trying though, I mean one hour and a half of American Gladiators, then all Dateline, really ?
