Monday’s numbers [09.15.2008]

By fred | September 16, 2008

NumbersWell well… things are really not looking good for Fox on Mondays. Last week wasn’t all that good already, but sadly it gets worse, and while many other networks don’t have much besides games or reruns to offer, Fox barely made it to the second spot on total viewers, and won the night on the demo, but it’s actually a tie with CBS - and The Eye had nothing but reruns!

Yeah, but don’t underestimate the power of Two And A Half Men, because - according to Nielsen - the most-watched program of the night, both in total viewers as well as on the demo, was indeed CBS’ rerun of Two And A Half Men. Really, America, is that what you like to watch best ?

Anyways, last week I said not to panic yet, but if you’re a fan of Glaubot and her friends you should probably get worried actually, because while I seriously do not believe Fox will ever pull the plug on the show with an upcoming theater release of the latest installment of the Terminator franchise, they probably won’t ever order any more than the 13 already ordered episodes either…

After a season finale not that impressive, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles lost 800 000 viewers down to only 5.5 million viewers and a 2.0 on the demo ! Now really, that’s bad. That’s really bad. A rerun of The Big Bang Theory was actually more watched than Terminator, and while it won the slot on the demo, so did Deal Or No Deal and, yes, Gossip Girl !

As bad as things might be for Fox, it’s champaign for everyone at The CW. Up by half a million viewers, the series hit a series high with 3.7 million viewers last night, and a 2.0 on the demo. In other words it’s almost a safe bet to say already Gossip Girl will have a third season (Okay not really, but if it continues like that for a few more weeks, it will be…). One Tree Hill is doing just fine as well, best results of the season with 3.4 million viewers and 1.8 on the demo.

On Fox however, things aren’t good. At 9.00 the latest Prison Break was down too, loosing 600 000 viewers and dropping below the 6 million bar : only 5.9 million viewers for Michael and his buddies. One thing the show has for it though, is a usually pretty strong fan base, which means the show won’t probably suffer much once NBC and CBS kick back in with new episodes as well, and a solid 2.5 on the demo.

Back on Terminator, I really hope that those numbers will go up, starting next week would be best and especially once a bit more people will be watching TV, because it really doesn’t look good. Makes you wonder if Fox choice to kick back in that early was really a good decision. For The CW it seems to have worked out nicely, but for Fox not so much…
