Friday’s Numbers [10.31.2008]

Fridays are always considered to be a dead night on TV, but that’s only true when you don’t air the right rerun. Yes, as unbelievable as it may sound, CBS won the night very easily thanks to the most-watched program of the night, a rerun of NCIS, with almost twice as many viewers as the last episode of The Ex List.
Ghost Whisperer had 9.41 million viewers and 2.2 on the demo, about 400 000 viewers less than a week ago. But of course the rerun of NCIS at 9.00 was a game-changer, with 11.21 million viewers and 2.3 on the demo. It was the most-watched program of the night, and a nice boost for Numb3rs, with 1.5 million more viewers and a good retention : with 10.62 million viewers and 2.3 on the demo it was a new season high for the show.
Meanwhile on NBC, we get what Ben Silverman’s decision are worth. We can start laughing at NBC for their Dean Or No Deal with 5.02 million viewers and only 0.9 on the demo! But it continued very well too, as Crusoe at 9.00 was down 1.7 million viewers with only 4.17 million viewers and 0.8 on the demo !! Goes with saying it was a new series low.
The show was already struggling on Wednesday nights, now with a move to Friday, on Halloween at that, and such a crappy lead-in - which also doesn’t fit at all - and I don’t think anyone expected Lipstick Jungle to do any good. Still, with 3.18 million viewers and 0.9 on the demo, the show would be in trouble even on The CW! For the record, a week ago Life had 5.5 million viewers (+69%) and 1.5 on the demo (+67%).
Now if that doesn’t get Silverman fired, just means NBC is even more in trouble than we all thought.
