Friday’s Numbers [10.24.2008]
By fred | October 25, 2008
Well, Fridays are know to be pretty dead in TV land, and it’s not last night that will change that. CBS was the most-watched network and only averaged 8.22 million viewers and a 2.1 on the demo. Which is good, considering no other network could even reach 6 million viewers or 2.0 on the demo. Yeah, Fridays are dead alright.
At 8.00 on CBS Ghost Whisperer kept its role of most-watched program of the night with a bump of 1 million viewers, up to a new season high with 9.95 million viewers and 2.5 on the demo. Following that came The Ex List, and I can’t imagine how CBS morons must be pleased they canceled Moonlight. Now, they have a show with only 5.65 million viewers and 1.6 on the demo, a series low — let’s all take a minute or two to laugh at them.
Also at 9.00 was a new Crusoe on NBC, winning the slot with only 5.92 million viewers, an important loss from last week’s two-hour pilot which averaged 6.7 million viewers. The show also went down from 1.6 to 1.2 on the demo, not good either as it was the worst performer on the demo - CW excluded.
Ending CBS’ night was Numb3rs, not doing too good, but it’s not helping it’s got such a low performed as lead-in. The show managed to gain half a million viewers and scored a season high, reaching 9 million viewers for the first time (9.07 million).
Meanwhile on NBC, Life lost a few viewers (400 000 viewers) but considering the huge drop from its lead-in (last week’s second episode of Crusoe had 7.7 million viewers, so a drop of 1.8 million viewers), it remain quite stable, and actually did remain stable on the demo (1.5), which also made it the best performer of the night on the demo for NBC.
NBC will really be in trouble on Fridays once Lipstick Jungle will take over, cause I doubt it’ll managed to perform as well…

Take a minute or two to laugh at them???
Why? They worked hard for this Honor!
Yeah! I’m laughing AT them for a lot more than a few minutes, cause I’m just one of CBS’s former “dumb cows” - and I know better than to trash something that’s great and growing!
I don’t know how things work in the entertainment industry - but I wish CBS would just BUY the rights to Moonlight off of Mr. Silver - and then go ahead and give it to Alex as HIS project… then step th4e heck outta his Muse’s way!~
That would be an instant success for CBS!
I agree with the above. I think Moonlight reruns might even do better in this time slot than the Ex List is doing. As much as I would like to see the show back, I don’t want to see the cast hurt again. If CBS can buy the rights, get the original writers and the cast back, and just stay out of it, well that would be great.
Thank you so much, Fred for another article that mentions Moonlight. You have become one of my favorite people! Thanks, also for the information and interpretation.
OlWolf, you have an incredible idea for CBS. If they would purchase Moonlight, and then allow Alex to develop it, they would certainly acquire many anxious fans. The key, of course, would be to step back, and let Moonlight grow and blossom in the capable hands of Alex O’Loughlin; however, past experience tells us that, if anything, CBS likes to tinker and interfere with the creative process to the point of destruction and disgust of the very people they hire to promote their most creative endeavors. Then, we are left with the numerous, predictible, shows that currently occupy the lineup. Perhaps, allowing true creativity and innovation is just too frightening and risky for CBS and its stodgy, play-it-safe, execs.
Yet, here we are, millions of us, still asking for something different, something exciting, something truly entertaining, that lasts more than 16 episodes! How about giving Moonlight a REAL chance, this time?
“Perhaps, allowing true creativity and innovation is just too frightening and risky for CBS and its stodgy, play-it-safe, execs.
Yet, here we are, millions of us”
I agree with this!!! If CBS’s execs want so hard to play it safe… WHY NOT Moonlight??? Like you said, there’s MILLIONS of viewers that would happily traipse back to CBS - IF - they reTurned Moonlight! Someone up there has to realize THIS SHOW is their Ticket out of their current Problem!
If they gave the reins of this show Over to Alex, and then exercised some restraint in their Fix It Till It’s Broke policy… the Network could come out on top of this! We, the viewers - would win as well!
I read today about the difference between “Viewers” and “Fans” - and everybody should remind CBS about this in their correspondence…
Viewers come and watch a show, and maybe they come back - maybe they don’t…
but Fans - STAY with a show FAITHFULLY - they don’t have a “take it or leave it” attitude! You ask any of the Moonlight Fans - and they’ll tell you they were hooked from the first to the fourth episodes - and then anxiously anticipated the next Friday to see what happened next! Most never missed a single episode. Those that did, recorded it to watch later - or bought the missed episodes so they’d catch it all!
THESE ARE FANS! And they’ll STAY with Moonlight! CBS needs to realize this! As long as you give them Moonlight, those several million will stay glued to your network!
