Will I hate House, or not?

But let’s stop the guesses here, because the show has always been brilliantly written and, if we are to believe Sir Hugh Laurie himself : “I’ve only read the first three scripts. They’re three of the best scripts ever. I find them absolutely phenomenal. It mixes broad comedy, tragedy…literary references…it jumps from tone to tone.”
Obviously he wasn’t gonna trash the show would he have not liked what he read, but it does sound like writers found a way to make us forget about the whole bad cliché part of the story.
Let’s hope so, and be sure that at least this will be a great opportunity to see the House we all love so much, as he’ll have to deal with a lot of people.
And remember that, after all, what attracted Laurie to the show in the first place was nothing but “a stunning script“. Same as us, except we also had Laurie’s fantastic performance.
Speaking of which, when asked about the secret of making his cranky and misanthropic character likable, here is how Hugh Laurie answered :
“One of my favorite moments in Star Trek is when Captain Kirk looks out over the vast cosmos and says “The three most beautiful words in any language are”, and of course your heart sinks because you think it’s going to be “I love you” or something, and he says, “Please help me”. What a fantastic idea, that vulnerability and need is a beautiful thing. And actually House is a character in need - of human contact and some kind of redemption - and I think that “Please help me” aspect is an important element of the show.”
Brilliant.
Not let’s forget that. Not forget how the writers have been able to amaze us in many ways during the past years, despite working on a classic “formula-based” show.
As Robert Sean Leonard, aka Wilson, said : “[House] is extremely self-effacing, he’s extremely funny, he’s brilliant, he’s scathingly honest, he’s incredibly candid. What don’t you like about him?”
All we have left to do now is wait for September 25, when House will return to us.
