Where Are All Summer Shows Gone ?

By fred | May 28, 2008

Recently I went over the shows that will be returning this summer, but one thing very obvious about that list was all those that were missing. Not that summer is usually a time a crowed as fall on TV land, but more than one name was missing.

Why? Because due to many things, mostly the writers’ strike though, quite a lot of shows will not be returning before September, while others won’t be seen before 2009 ! And, some might not even return at all… So if you were wondering about where the Entourage, Californication, The Shield and other Rescue Me (amongst others) were gone, here’s your chance to find out. Though again, you will have to go through summer without them.

Thanks to Jennifer Goodwin from E!Online, here’s a summary the shows to be missed this summer.

Coming Back In September

* Californication is most likely returning in September, though no official date has been announced yet. Also, except for the pilot, the show was good, and the season finale was a pile of crap, literally. But if you missed it, DVDs comes out June 17.
* Dexter starts shooting June 9, and the season premiere is currently scheduled for Sunday, September 28 (Subject to change of course)
* Entourage
* It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
* True Blood (from Alan Ball)
* Mad Men : Again, no official announcement yet, but it should be back around September and an official date is said to be coming soon. Actually, season 2 will premiere on July 27!
* Sons Of Anarchy : a new show about a guy forced to juggle his commitments to his kid and those to his friends in a motorcycle gang…
* The Shield : The final season will premiere in September on FX

Not Coming Back Before 2009

* Big Love : Planned for January 09
* Damages : As said previously, the show won’t be back until January 09 either
* Kyle XY : And another one for January 09
* Nip/Tuck : Again, January 09
* Rescue Me : Planned for spring ‘09 (think March-ish)

Unknown, Or Not COming Back At All

* Dirt : Nothing official, but rumor has it it’s been canceled
* Tell Me You Love Me : Still not in production, so don’t expect anything before summer 2009 !
* The Riches : Nothing official either - “No decisions have been made about Dirt and The Riches yet” according to the network - but a third season isn’t sure to come. To be fair, that second season was a complete mess, to keep it nice, and I won’t miss it if it doesn’t come back…
* Side Order Of Life : Canceled.

    I loved the season finale of Californication. I didn’t think it was “crap” at all. Can’t wait to see where they will go this season.

    Well, I did. The pilot was pretty good, I really thought this might be a good show, but after that it only went downhill, characters never evolving and going for the worse, and that finale with the whole happy family coming out of nowhere, and Hank’s ex just married two seconds ago jumping in the car to run away wih him, for some unknown, leaving her new husband behind… Oh Please God! No more…
