When Supergirl meets Supergirl…

By fred | August 6, 2007

Laura VandervoortIt’s been revealed a few weeks ago that Laura Vandervoort was going to be the new Supergirl on The CW’s hit show Smallville.

Since then the pretty Canadian actress has started shooting, and while being nervous at first the cast & crew have been great to her, and she’s now part of the family, enjoying the whole thing as well. “It’s been incredible, that’s for sure.“, she said. “Everyone’s been really comforting.

Vandervoort will be playing a “supergirl”, as she’s no other than the biological cousin of Clark Kent ! “She’s a strong, independent woman. So it’s great to play.

But she hasn’t been watching Helen Slater’s performance of Supergirl in the movie of the same name from 1984, Vandervoort year of birth. “I don’t want to see it, because I want to play her my own way. We’re going with the current DC Comics mythology, which is that she’s Clark’s cousin Kara.

But that doesn’t mean the two won’t meet, as it’s been reported that Helen Slater will guest start on Smallville during the upcoming season of the show

It is not the first time an actor from a movie or television series revolving around Superman appears on the show. All fans remember Margo Kidder or Christopher Reeve, not to forget no other than Clark’s mom, Annette O’Toole, who played Lana Lang in 1983’s Superman III.
It won’t stop there either, as Lois & Clark’s Dean Cain has been casted to appear this season as well.

Helen Slater’s appearance on Smallville should air by the end of October or early November on The CW.

Spoiler Alert

Helen Slater will play no other than the aunt of Supergirl Kara, Clark’s cousin. So we can expect to see another Kryptonian, but there hasn’t been any more information about the role. Whether she’ll be Clark’s birth mother, or only a sister, is still unknown at the time.
