When Ashton Kutcher Punk’d The Paparazzi…

By fred | March 10, 2008

Ashton KutcherYou might remember him as Kelzo, of course, but since That 70’s Show ended Ashton Kutcher didn’t completely leave our screens. He might not always be on, as in its reality show Beauty And The Geek (whose season 5 premieres this Tuesday at 8.00 on The CW) or, of course, his MTV show Punk’d

Recently Kutcher came up with a little twist for his great success, this times the celebrities are in on the joke, they’re working with Kutcher and the team of his latest show - called Pop Fiction and airing Sundays at 10.30 on E! - in order to have the paparazzi Punk’d, sort of.

You’ve probably heard or read about the show without even knowing it : the idea is to see how a little something will be spread by paparazzi and soon become news all over the Internet, blogs, and then TV networks, even though there’s really nothing there.

Recently Paris Hilton was spotted in L.A. having dinner with a gray-haired, orange-robed “shaman” who blessed her and urged her to give away a diamond necklace to a total stranger, which she did. Soon it was all over blogs, London tabloids, TMZ.com, the New York Daily News and other websites like of the Los Angeles Times or San Francisco Chronicle, who wondered Paris had finally found religion or something.

Turns out there was no “mystic guru”, but an actor for Pop Fiction : yes, the whole scene was staged. And it’s funny because everyone talked about it, all over the world, but it wasn’t true. Get it? Yeah? So, are you laughing?

Okay, so if you didn’t like that one, wait for others they have in store, you’ve probably heard of them… things like Britney going to teach kids how to dance, or Avril Lavigne being pregnant. Although I’m thinkingĀ their best coup of all has to be Mike Huckabee ! You didn’t really think he was for real, did you? Ah! You justĀ got Punk’d Pop Fiction’d…, or something.
