What’s to come on USA

By fred | July 16, 2007

Shiri ApplebySince we’re in the schedule announcements, let’s keep on that road with a little sneak peak at what’s to come on USA Network.

I’m not the biggest fan of USA shows, as you may know I don’t like Psych that much (even though it got better) and I think Burn Notice is quite bad (despite doing good). But at least they try, and despite not being that pleased with the new season The 4400, that’s a definitely good show.

So, what else can we expect from USA…

* Halo will feature a “less than heavenly average Joe” who wakes up one day, a halo over his head. Of course he doesn’t like it, and will then try to get ride of it, and as doing so reluctantly find himself doing good deeds!

Hopefully this will be a comedy, and could be just another kind of Earl

* The Expert is yet another show about resolving police investigations and pursuing criminals, but the “expert” isn’t a cop, or on ex-cop, or even a fake psychic, but this time a reclusive librarian with a unique condition : synesthesia. Synesthetes (people who have synesthesia) have their senses mixed, allowing them to “hear” colors, “smell” sounds, or “feel” words.

Synesthesia sounds or feels like a pretty fascinating thing in itself, but I’m not sure how it could actually be “seen” on TV. It will most likely turn out to be as bad as Monk (assuming that Monk is as bad as its season premiere was, being basically the only episode of it I ever seen…)

* Citizen’s Arrest is about a young boy institutionalized for delusional behavior, as he was convinced to be a cop. When released, as an adult, he decides to go “undercover” (so he’s clearly let go for being “cured”) to clean the name of “Uncle Jimmy”, who was marked as a dirty cop.
Along the way he will actually solve other cases, and turned out to be nothing but the best cop NYPD ever had.

I don’t think a show could look any worst. I mean really, there’s nothing remotely interesting there, and being USA I doubt to see more once looking at the final product.

* To Love & Die (working title) is another show coming to USA, but a little later. And it has already a great first point : it will start Shiri Appleby, recently seen on Six Degrees.
Described as a “high-concept character with a light tone and a slightly twisted soul at its core”, the show will center on Appleby’s character, Hildy, a young woman convinced that she could resolved her dating issues if only she could meet the father she never knew. She will track him down not only to find out that he is a contract killer, but also that she actually has a “real knack for her father’s line of work”.
