What will you be watching this summer ??

Now that the season is (almost) over, we can start focusing on what to watch this summer. Summer is a time we usually move away from the big four, as they are pretty much filled with nothing but reruns, games, and more reruns. As such, we look more into the ones who keep being creative and providing us with great, exciting content, the cable networks.
Of course, there isn’t always something good, and with the still on-going effects of the recent writers’ strike, well, a few series you might be waiting for won’t be coming back (so soon).
During summer I usually watch The 4400, but USA canceled it so we won’t get any actual closure on that story. And as I said, some series will be returning later than usual, for instance there won’t be no Entourage until September, and I think we might have to wait until 2009 for the new season of FX great hit, Damages. Same goes for Rescue Me, although FX will produce minisodes of Rescue Me this summer.
Of course some shows will be returning, and I’m looking forward for the new season of Psych for instance. And there’s also the new season of Weeds, a completely new and very different season it seems, and while I have my share of doubts I can’t say I’m not curious to see how this will actually go (down?).
Amongst the new series, I’m curious about USA’s In Plain Sight, and I’m quite thrilled this doesn’t seem to be about someone somehow having a “talent” of some sort, and using it to help the police solving crimes, as this describe most of USA series, and dozens of new projects they’re working on…
As described from USA, the show stars Mary McCormack as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshal attached to the highly secretive Federal Witness Protection Program (WITSEC). In Plain Sight follows the adventures of Shannon as she protects and manages relocated Federal Witnesses who come from all over the country. The witnesses under her care can be anything from career criminals, congenital liars, thieves and murderers to those who have had the misfortune of witnessing or falling victim to a crime. We’ll see how that turns out.
From all the promos I’ve seen of Swingtown, a new series which “peeks into the shag-carpeted suburban homes of the culturally transformative ’70s to find couples reveling in the sexual and social revolution that introduced women’s liberation and challenged conventional wisdom”, I couldn’t be any less interested really.
Then there’s a new sitcom, The Factory, but it’s on SpikeTV so I don’t really expect anything from it, especially after the disappointment that was The Kill Point. Lastly we have Flashpoint, a new CBS series that is about, wait for it, cops! Yeah, big surprise there. The show is officially described as “an emotional journey into the tough, risk-filled lives of a group of cops in the SRU (inspired by Toronto’s Emergency Task Force). It’s a unit that rescues hostages, busts gangs, defuses bombs, climbs the sides of buildings and talks down suicidal teens”.
