What will you be watching on Thursday nights ?

By fred | September 4, 2008

Thursdays are big, no question there, and this fall won’t be any different, though we will have to wait somewhat longer to see it in action. Still, with all the goods on that one single night, we might as well start to get ready and set our DVRs now…

First, a look at what’s to come…

* At 8.00 on The CW will return, maybe for the last time, creators-less Smallville, starting on September 18th; Ugly Betty will be back on ABC starting September 25th; on NBC the comedy night is back, with My Name Is Earl debuting its new season on September 25th with a one-hour episode

* At 8.30 NBC will introduce a new sitcom on its Thursday lineup, Kath & Kim, and something tells me that won’t be no Scrubs. The Australian import will makes its debut October 9th.

* At 9.00 the boys of Supernatural will be back on The CW, starting September 18th; on ABC the medical-soap Grey’s Anatomy will be back starting September 25th with a two-hour special; on NBC the hilarious The Office will be back September 25th with one hour-long episode as well; finally on CBS we’ll have the usual CSI coming back October 9th

* At 9.30 Tina Fey’s little comedy gem is back, though we will have to wait for 30 Rock as its season premiere won’t be on before October 30th

* At 10.00 on NBC it might be the last season of E.R. that will premiere on September 25th; on ABC we will have the UK import drama Life On Mars, having its series premiere on October 9th; and on CBS it will be another new UK imported series, Eleventh Hour, premiering on the same October 9th

* At 10.30 there’s another new series, FX launches a new sitcom from South Park writer Kenny Hotz, Testees, making its debut on October 9th

Then, what I’ll be watching…

As always, Thursdays are big, and looking at all those names I think it might be faster to name those I won’t actually be watching.

I will be watching the entire NBC comedy night, at least at first. My Name Is Earl, The Office and 30 Rock have all earned their season pass already, Kath & Kim I’ll give a chance, but I have a feeling it won’t be good.

I am thrilled to get to see the Supernatural boys back, I sure hope both of them will be fine. As for Smallville, it hasn’t been any good for a while now and I do wish that we’d get to see Reaper paired with Supernatural instead, but seems we’ll have to wait 2009 to see how the Devil is doing these days.

To be done with the shows at 9.00 I only have left to mention Grey’s Anatomy, which I’m still watching despite everything.

At 10.00 we have two new series, and quite frankly I’m not really excited about either one : Life On Mars has had many showrunners coming & going and that’s never a good sign, plus I wasn’t already that excited about this show. As for Eleventh Hour, it sounds a bit much like that new show on Fox, you know, Fringe, which I think I’ll like best. Plus, the few promos I’ve seen for that show did far from an impression on me. That being said I will obviously watch both of those, at least at first, then we’ll see how it goes.

And of course, I’ll be checking out Testees. I mean, writer for South Park ? How could I not see how that goes?

And finally, you!

That was my take, but what will you be watching on Thursday nights ? NBC comedies ? ABC McDoctors ? Scientists ? Time-traveling cops ? Let us know in the comments!
