What will you be watching on Friday nights ?
By fred | September 5, 2008
And now the week comes to an end. Friday nights have always been considered the death slots, it’s often when series come to die, where network send the shows they don’t believe in, don’t intend to support, or just keep on the air because they have nothing else to put on, but they’re gone. It’s sad, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some pretty fantastic shows on Fridays actually, either because networks are stupid, or because some shows managed to make Fridays their own…
First, a look at what’s to come…
* At 8.00 Jennifer Love Hewitt is coming back once again on Ghost Whisperer, new season premiering October 3rd; on The CW it will be the return of Everybody Hates Chris, starting October 3rd as well; and NBC will try something with their drama Crusoe, debuting October 17th
* At 8.30 on The CW will be the expected The Game, back October 3rd as well
* At 9.00 while many will still be grieving Moonlight, CBS tries to do something, I guess, with The Ex List, premiering October 3rd
* At 10.00 and despite whatever NBC may think of it, you don’t want to miss one of the greatest show: Life, starting its new season Monday, September 29th at 10.00 and then it’s on Friday, October 3rd at 10.00 also. Then, back on Monday (October 6th) before finally settling down on its regular slot, Fridays at 10.00 starting October 10th (sounds complicated but it’s not, and it’s totally worth it!); meanwhile on CBS maths & cops are back for a new season of Numb3rs, starting October 3rd
Then, what I’ll be watching…
Friday might be considered dead in TV land, but as far as I’m concerned it will be one very special day, an highlight of the week even. Oh yes, Fridays will be cool this season…
Okay I might give a try to Crusoe, but honestly the few promos I’ve seen really didn’t get me interesting, more willing to run away actually. I’m not sure exactly why Ghost Whisperer is still on the air, but I know I’m not watching no more, and as far as The Ex List is concerned, I don’t know, the plot for that show sounds so… what’s the word? silly? stupid? boring? don’t care? Yeah, that’s it, I don’t care.
Now, add to that the whole grudge over Moonlight’s treatment and I can’t see why I’d tune in…
But that’s not what Fridays are all about, Fridays really begin at 10.00 First off, of course on USA we’ll have some episodes of Psych, even if the show will have its usual break halfway through September.
But then comes Life, and that show is just wonderful. I really love it, it’s one of the best things I’ve seen on TV (in years), and I can’t wait for it to come back. Of course, recent promos have had me extremely worried that NBC might be trying to ruin things, as if moving the show to Friday nights and trashing the DVDs by not featuring the original music wasn’t enough. Anyways, I have faith, I want to believe, I have to, this show was simply the greatest thing to come out of of last season, chances are it’s the best thing you’re not watching, and you really should.
Oh yeah, and I might keep an eye on Numb3rs, if I have time and they manage to get the new girl without going through the same things they always do, and if Megan’s departure didn’t screw things up with Larry…
And finally, you!
That was my take, but what will you be watching on Friday nights ? Any chance you tune in on CBS ? Do you intend to give Life a try, as you should ? Let us know in the comments!

Shows: Crusoe, Everybody Hates Chris, Ghost Whisperer, Life, Numb3rs, Psych, The Ex List, The Game

There’s only one show I am anxiously awaiting the return of, and that’s Numb3rs! Having just discovered this show last January and playing cath-up with the DVDs of the first 3 seasons, I don’t think I can convey the anticipation I’m feeling for season 5! Will Charlie get his clearances back–obviously yes, or there’d be no show–and what will he have to go through, will this cause even more friction between him and his older brother?
I’m also curious to see The Mentalist, Eleventh Hour and Fringe, and from cable, Sci-Fi’s new show Sanctuary.
