What to expect next season on NBC
By fred | March 31, 2008
Nothing completely official yet, but many sources are talking already, and we’re getting an idea of what NBC schedule might look like for the upcoming season.
A few series have already received a new season order or will very soon, like The Office, 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl, Law & Order, E.R. or Heroes, including newcomers such as Life or Chuck. After many rumors and expectations from fans, NBC is also expected to bring back Friday Night Lights for another season.
Adding to that a bunch of new series, starting with Tom Fontana’s Philanthropist, a drama about a rebel billionaire who uses his money, connections and power to help people in need no matter the risks, which received a straight-to-series order before the strike, and Kath & Kim, adaptation of an Australian hit comedy, which received a six-episode order back in February and will star Molly Shannon and Selma Blair .
Also new will be My Worst Enemy, is a new take on the “Jekyll & Hyde” story and is also another result, with Robinson Crusoe, of Silverman’s new “way of thinking” for new shows.
Which basically is, instead of trying to come up with something new, fresh, innovative, let’s try and redo what’s been done before, since it worked then, it should still work now, right ? That’s one of the stupidest thing ever, but then again, we’re talking about NBC and Ben Silverman here so, yeah, makes sense.
Speaking of which, after the success of last season’s attempt at reviving Bionic Woman, this new season will see a new Knight Rider, since the movie-pilot managed to do well (over 12 million viewers) for some reason back in February. I’m sure everyone is very excited about this, and by excited, I mean couldn’t care less.
Finally, one last drama NBC should add is Kings, penned by Michael Green, which is loosely based on the story of King David and stars Christopher Egan as a pure-hearted young warrior who joins the court of the charismatic and authoritative King Silas (McShane).
It seems that Lipstick Jungle won’t be coming back, while the future of Medium is still in the balance.
According to rumors, here’s how it could go :
Mondays
8.00 - Chuck
9.00 - Heroes
10.00 - My Worst Enemy
Tuesdays
8.00 - The Biggest Loser
9.00 - The Biggest Loser
10.00 - Law & Order: SVU
Wednesdays
8.00 - Unknown
9.00 - One of the new drama, which one still unclear
10.00 - Unknown
Thursdays
8.00 - My Name Is Earl
8.30 - 30 Rock
9.00 - The Office
9.30 - Kath & Kim (since NBC still hasn’t order more Scrubs and doesn’t seem willing to ever do so, which confirms that the show is looking more & more like it’s heading to ABC next season…)
10.00 - E.R.
Fridays and Sundays are still undetermined.
And for those wondering, NBC might hold on to Knight Rider and launch it only in midseason, possibly in the coveted post-Super Bowl slot.
