Weeds’ creator loves piracy

By fred | August 6, 2007

WeedsWell, this might be going a little too far. But in a recent interview creator Jenji Kohan was asked about the first three episodes of the upcoming season and the fact that they were leaked onto numerous torrent sites.

Revenue aside, I don’t expect to get rich on Weeds I’m excited it’s out there. Showtime is great, but it does have a limited audience. If I had my druthers, the whole thing would be available right now.

Really, is awesome is that answer!? Unlike those morons network execs who’d have started to complain how they’ll loose some of their millions and go on to rant with a lot of BS, then likely threaten of legal actions to be taken against everyone involved, or downloading, or just talking about it, instead of that crap that MPAA, RIAA and a-like craps would start shooting at everyone, calling TV fans criminal and wanting to send them to jail, Kohan had the most intelligent answer ever on the subject.

Kohan and Showtime actually seem to get it : episodes made available online do not hurt the show, or the network, au contraire. They help bringing in new fans, they help build up the buzz about the show, they simply help make the show more successful in the end.

Be sure do catch the third season of Weeds, premiering next week on Monday, August 13 at 10pm.
