All networks are trying to have their (new) shows to be talked about, they want to create a buzz in order to bring as most viewers as possible. To achieve this, some let one of their exec go his way and release a screener out, so the full pilot can hit the Internet and be downloaded by all TV fans around the world.
ABC succeed quite well at this, having their new show Pushing Daisies leaked.
And now Fox are doing kind of the same, but they do it officially, through their very own On Demand site, and not hiding in the dark, so they can blame piracy and viewers if it doesn’t turn out as good as they wanted.
Big networks like to get scared after tragedies and pull episodes of shows off the air for bogus reasons, but that doesn’t mean they are not ready to make money out of real life drama a little later.
Working on that idea, Fox has a new drama coming up this fall revolving around a small police force operating in New Orleans, two years after Hurricane Katrina destroy the whole place, seeing them trying to deal with the chaos and criminals all around as people struggle to rebuild their city.
And in their new move to promote shows and create a buzz, Fox made the full series premiere of K-Ville available for your viewing pleasure.
But it doesn’t stop there: all craving Prison Break fans who can’t wait to know if the third season of the show will really be “the best one yet“, now have a chance to find out for themselves.
Fox has made the first 17 minutes of the upcoming season premiere available right now. Sure, it’s not the full episode, but if you really can’t wait for September 17 and the season premiere, it’s still something that should help you wait a little.
Or make you just dying to see the full episode more even!
Surely this will generate some buzz and free promo for the shows, so a good move for Fox. And for the fans too, who will be pleased to get to preview all they can without a doubt.
That is, US fans. Because if, like me, you do not live in the US, then you’re screwed. Although a proxy might help, and I hear it’s already been ripped and made freely available for all on BitTorrent anyways…
Note that the pilot will be taken offline on August 31.
