Tonight, A Rerun Of Bones You’ve Never Seen Before

You probably remember how, about one year ago, some episodes were pulled off by networks after the Virginia Tech massacre. Of the two shows who then saw their episode count for last season being trimmed down, one already dealt with it (Criminal Minds), while the other one has not.
For CBS drama, the episode as it had been done was never broadcasted, instead break it to pieces and used them as flashbacks during their season premiere, which had to be rewritten when it turned out that Gideon would not be part of the team no more.
The other show was Bones, and Fox was still holding on to The Player Under Pressure, the episode originally planned to air on April 18, 2007. It had been previously reported that the episode was to be “tweaked slightly” and be included as one of this season’s episodes. Apparently, things might have changed.
Don’t worry, the infamous episode - which was pulled off because it deals about a corpse found beneath the bleachers of a college basketball court, and the V-Tech massacre occurred on a college, so yeah - is still scheduled to air, and will air tonight, but either Fox screw up their press release and forgot to tweak it, or they kept the episode as it was first done.
I won’t spoil anything for you, but to say that at least one scene on this episode involved Hodgins and Angela and their blooming relationship. Except that since last season, things have evolved with those two, who are now engaged and almost got married. As a result, that scene was supposed to be removed or tweaked in order to ensure the continuity, and make this episode part of the third season.
But the official press release still contains a mention of that scene (”Meanwhile, Hodgins attempts to take his relationship with Angela to the next level, but his courting methods prove to be far less tactful than his scientific ones.“), which cannot make the episode part of the current season.
So unless they screwed up and forgot to remove that sentence from the press release, tonight’s episode of Bones might actually be considered a “rerun”, even though it never actually aired, as it will be the episode from last year, as it was done then, so an episode from the second season of the show, and not the current one.
Either way, tonight at 8.00 on Fox there is a brand new episode of Bones.
