The truth about Gideon’s exit!

By fred | August 20, 2007

Mandy PatinkinMany things have been said about Mandy Patinkin leaving Criminal Minds, and even more about the way he did it and the consequences it could have one the show.

While the reasons behind his decision are still unknown and will likely remain private, more light had been shed onto Gideon’s exit from the show and the way everything was handled.

In an interview on National Ledger, co-star A.J. Cook, who plays FBI Special Agent Jennifer “JJ” Jareau on the CBS drama, explained that indeed none of them saw it coming, but they all made peace and are moving on.

We’re not going to lie and say we weren’t surprised and disappointed, but we’re going to move forward and hope that it all goes fine. We wish the best to Mandy.

She told that Patinkin, after wards, did made sure that he eventually contacted all of his co-workers and explained them why he left. “We have been kind of playing phone tag, but he has gone out of his way to make sure he reached all of us. I think that was the biggest part for us… We just didn’t know what was going on, and we were all worried. Once we got into contact with him and knew he was OK, then it was we just want him to be happy.

It seems things have now been “fixed” amongst all people working for the show, many others assume that Patinkin couldn’t deal with the darkness of the show anymore, and that that would explain his departure, but we might never know the whole truth.

Regardless, the only thing that now matters and should concern people is the show, and how Gideon will be written off. Many many things have been said about this issue, including here, about the way it would be done (or not) and how his co-stars refused to work with him.

Executive producer Ed Bernero cleared things up, explaining that none if this was true. “It’s not that they didn’t want to work with him“, he said. As told before, he and the rest of the cast made peace, and the fact that he did shot his last time on the show alone had nothing to do with resentment or anything close, but that writers simply didn’t need anyone else but Gideon.

Spoiler Alert

If you remember, last season one episode did not made it to the air, CBS deciding against it after the Virginia Tech killings because it featured the team investigating a serial killer targeting women at college.
Nothing new, never done before nor that close to the V-Tech tragedy, and Criminal Minds is a show about serial killers, but anyways, (CBS) execs’ are like that.
