The Strike Might Help A Few Shows…

The writers’ strike has had an impact on television and many shows. Yes, all main hits like CSI, Grey’s Anatomy or House are back and doing well, but they’re just not doing as well as they used to a few months ago, before that whole mess. It could be the weather, for some it could be the new time slots, but chances are the strike had a part to play in this, whether it just drove people away from TV, and allowed them to realize they didn’t actually miss that show they used to watch religiously and thought they couldn’t live without.
But according to The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd, it might be a win for some shows, because since even the big hits don’t do as well as before, networks might be inclined to give second chances to more shows than they would have otherwise. So, is your favorite show on the list of the shows on the bubble likely to be renewed, or are you still screwed ?
First, the bad news, always the bad news first, right? So as we already know Men In Trees has been officially canceled, and it’s the same for Cashmere Mafia, Aliens In America or October Road - shows whose cast is already getting gigs elsewhere, never a good sign.
Shark is probably over, because CBS a high ratings bar and the show doesn’t get there.
The New Adventures Of Old Christine’s fate is still uncertain, but the Monday comedy night does well and CBS might be thinking of opening up another night of comedy. If that’s the case, Christine is guaranteed to come back, if not, things aren’t so certain. But there’s hope, and ABC is said to be interested, should CBS decided not to renewed it…
Despite a recent series low, Boston Legal performs well given a strong lead-in, and while I’d be a little worried seeing how ABC keep moving it around in its schedule, Hibberd says it should come back.
Moonlight remains the weakest link in CBS’ Friday night lineup. Yet the vampire drama continues to win its time period. A pickup is all but certain.
The bubbliest of the bubble shows, Eli Stone, has split industry opinions. Despite scoring only a 2.0 rating for its the season finale, ABC likes the show and the network has a history of giving a second chance to modestly rated freshman series. It’s still unsure, but the show might be renewed for a second season — and quite frankly, it should, because it’s only gotten better & better.
Women’s Murder Club doesn’t do so well, and might not come back. If Eli Stone gets renewed, it’s even likely that WMC will be renewed.
Great news : The word on Reaper has turned unexpectedly positive. Though recent episodes have pulled about a 1.1 rating, The CW needs a suitable Thursday night partner for Supernatural, especially since next season of Smallville is likely to be the last one. Plus, after adding DVR use, Reaper ratings often climb a higher percentage than any other series, and CW executives are fond of the show. So the show should come back, and this has to be the best news of the bunch.
Also, How I Met Your Mother is pretty much certain to come back for another season, especially after the sadly second Britney-bump coming up soon. It’s a shame that CBS needed so much time, a strike, and a train wreck who can’t act to ruin the show, twice, in order to make their minds, but at least it seems they’ve made the right choice…
