The Riches is over, The West Wing’s Donna (Janel Moloney) is coming back to TV !

So far I don’t think a decision has been (officially) made when it comes to the future of FX’s The Riches, but it may not look too good. Along with Dirt, the two series were uncertain to return next season, and it’s already been confirmed that Dirt was over.
As for The Riches, well, executive producers/showrunners Nicole Yorkin and Dawn Prestwich have joined ABC’s fantasy pilot Captain Cook’s Extraordinary Atlas, and will serve as executive producers/showrunners on the show, should it be picked up by the network. So nothing’s official, but it doesn’t look too good for The Riches I’d say…
This new project is described as Harry Potter meets Pan’s Labyrinth, and will center on a young girl (Jodelle Ferland) who finds a magical atlas that reveals a secret world underneath our own. Working on the pilot are also Tom Wheeler, who wrote the episode, and Emmy winner Thomas Schlamme, who is directing it.
And it looks like the project is in pretty good shape, with the addition of Yorkin and Prestwich as potential showrunners, and given how lots of pilot episode Schlamme directed went into series, even if for only one season (Sports Night, Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, Spin City, Invasion, The West Wing…)
Speaking of The West Wing, here’s a good news to make out of this : the return of Janel Moloney to television. Seen “not too long” ago in an episode of House, Janel Moloney - The West Wing’s Donna - and Patrick Breen, previously seen in Eli Stone, are also co-starring in the pilot.
It’s not clear whether or not they will be series regular or not, and I’m not even sure I’m excited about this new project, but I’m always happy to see some of the cast of The West Wing on TV.
Seriously, wouldn’t you love to see Richard Schiff, Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford back on every week ?
