The Official Emmy Nominations

By fred | July 17, 2008

EmmyThere’s been much talk and then some about those nominations, as the top10 finalists lists have been made public, or find a way to the public eyes. But now speculations are over as the official nominees were announced by Patrick Harris and Kristen Chenoweth - both nominated by the way.

What to say ? Not many surprises, even with things that went wrong and the misses here and there. Not much love for The Wire, I think more was expected, but it’s a general trend : cable networks are kicking in with style (AMC, FX, etc) and HBO is really lacking some great hits nowadays. Sure, The Wire is still around, and Entourage hasn’t been forgotten despite being away for so long, plus the “experimental” In Treatment was noticed, but it’s not like they had a The Sopranos or Sex And The City anyways…

Okay, so let’s not waste any time and dive into it (in bold are my votes) :

Best Drama

Boston Legal
Damages
Dexter
House
Lost
Mad Men

No real surprise here, as I’ve said before I think Lost as to win. It was the best season to date, and if they don’t get a win with an episode like The Constant, the one submitted here, then clearly the Emmy are worthless. Well, that wouldn’t actually be surprising, would it?

I won’t rant about how Life isn’t there, we knew it wasn’t nominated, despite being the best new show last season, for real.

Best Comedy

30 Rock
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Entourage
The Office
Two And A Half Men

No luck for Family Guy I guess, Emmy voters think Two And A Half Men is funnier. But they submitted a not-so-good episode, so it’s their fault. Anyways, and as much as I love The Office, as long as 30 Rock wins I’ll be happy. Not as happy as if How I Met Your Mother was up there as it should be, but…

Best Drama Actor

Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)
Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment)
Hugh Laurie (House)
James Spader (Boston Legal)
Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
Michael C. Hall (Dexter)

Well, I’m just superhappy to see Bryan Cranston got a nomination. He deserves it, I wanted him to have it, but you never know with those people.. Now let’s all get together and pray they don’t give the Emmy to James Spader. I mean no offense, but Cranston deserves it more, or the amazing Hugh Laurie - who never won by the way, unlike Spader to whom they keeping giving it… (Also deserving more, Damian Lewis)

Best Drama Actress

Glenn Close (Damages)
Holly Hunter (Saving Grace)
Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)
Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU)
Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters)

Glenn Close, Damages. Enough said.

    Hi

I am writing a comment about the show Dexter. The question asks why does he kill the “bad guys”? I would have to answer because he can at least on TV.

The episode about his evil twin brother was absolutely awful in my opinion.
This show is neither suspenseful or entertaining!

Why does he kill? Maybe he kills to get better ratings?? This show is just sick with no redeeming value in my opinion. It’s pretty sad that TV has resorted to that kind of TV shows. Maybe that’s why I don’t watch much TV anymore.
