The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… This Season For Fox

By fred | June 18, 2008

Fox(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)

The Good

Fox wasn’t stupid enough to air only the first quarter of an unfinished season of 24, but decided not to air it until they could really/fully air it. Probably pushed by the strike, but they have also given their chances to new series like New Amsterdam or Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and of course they renewed the later, because we all want more Glaubot!

The Bad

Back To You was pretty bad, so were Canterbury’s Law or K-Ville, the awful The Return of Jezebel James or even New Amsterdam. All of those got canceled, understandably, though maybe not all should have made it to the air. And I wish they had given more chance to Unhitched, because it had potential, but at least all episodes aired, and we’re talking about Fox here!

The Ugly

American Idol, The Moment Of Truth, American Idol… there were time this season I wondered if Fox was a (bad) reality-only network or not!

Also, Prison Break. One season was enough, but a second one could do. Dragging it for a third season couldn’t have resulted in anything good, and it really did not. (Wait till we see the next one…) And I cannot not mention the way Bones decided to end its season, by assassinating one of their best character and turning it into some stupid clichéd cold freak, which was both unbelievable and insulting, really.

The Future

…looks great, if you can forget about Sara’s head being magically reattached to her body while Tony Almeida gets revived, somehow. I mean, apparently Fox is really going sci-fi all the way next season, bringing both Prison Break and 24 there!

But of course, and surely we’ll have to see if they will really give their shows a chance, but the two most exciting series next season are J.J. Abrams’ Fringe, and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, both (sci-fi, and both) on Fox. And I can’t wait for either one of them! If they can live up to the hype (and based on its pilot, Fringe totally does) we’re in for a treat!

I would have mentioned the way they dealt with Bones on their schedule for next season, if the show hadn’t gone awfully crazy…

totally bummed to hear you, as in Fox Netword, is cancelling New Amsterdam. I thought it had a unique subject, loved the native american ties the lead in New Amsterdam had and wanted to know what happens next. too bad that the shows picked for fox are so mainstream and generic. I give many thumbs up for the great acting of the lead in New Amsterdam and the intrigriging theme idea of a man alive for hundreds of years, cursed with staying the same age until he finds true love….I will trully miss the show…
