The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… This Season For ABC
By fred | June 16, 2008
(This week we look back at how each of the main networks handled things this past season, as well as looking at how things are looking up for the coming one. Agree ? Disagree ? Share your thoughts and grade networks in the comments below…)
The Good
This season ABC showed to be understanding of the situation, and decided to give a real chance to new series that had proven to be of quality, renewing Pushing Daisies, of course, but also Eli Stone or Dirty Sexy Money. And while I have mixed feelings over their treatment of Lost, overall it played out very nicely, offering us the best season to date and a fantastic 3-hour season finale ! Way to go.
The Bad
Staying on the Lost topic, I couldn’t have been more against their decision to air the eight first episodes of the season if they couldn’t guarantee any more would be later added, and let me tell you that if things had played out differently, the strike lasted longer and Meet Kevin Johnson been the last episode of the season, I would have been incredibly pissed, more than words could say.
Then, we have to mention a few names of series ABC thought really had a chance at being good. Let’s see… Big Shots ? Cashmere Mafia ? Miss/Guided ? Or, or course, Cavemen ? I guess at least they didn’t renew any of them, except for Private Practice…
The Ugly
Did I mentioned Private Practice already ? Well then, maybe I should mention another show that clearly isn’t any good (anymore) : Desperate Housewives. I’ve never been a fan, but at least it used to be watchable. It has now turn into a silly mess that keeps repeating itself, and that “jump” by the end of the season was a poor attempt at creating the impression of some creativity behind the scenes, but it badly backfired into a laughable move, really.
Oh yeah, three more words : According To Jim
The Future
Next season ABC almost doesn’t have anything new on, and quite frankly I’m not sure about Life On Mars so far. But with hits like Grey’s Anatomy and quality television from Lost, Pushing Daisies or Eli Stone, at first it might look completely unexciting yet they should be more than fine ! Of course, bringing in Scrubs for a final season (or two?) is just great!
