The best season of Supernatural yet!

They are fully aware that, last season, fans weren’t thrilled by Jo and how she had been brought up, as a “girl next door” who wanted to help in the boys fight against evil. She simply didn’t belong, they’ve fully realized their mistake and won’t make it again.
Real characters, and definitely not love interests. That’s how these girls will make their way into the Supernatural world. Ruby and Bela and two very different and separate characters, and will in fact “very rarely [be] in the same episode, because they’re each serving very different storylines“.
Also to be noted that they won’t be new characters to join in with the Winchester brothers and follow them as they go from town to town, finding new evil to fight. In Kripke’s words : “That is not the case.”
There will be no change in the main “formula” of the show, it will still be the two brothers traveling over the country to fight demons. The girls are not series regular, but recurring regulars ! This means that, by contracts, they’ll appear “in 12 out of 22 episodes. That’s tops.”
Just like others characters have in the past, they’ll show up at times, and they leave. The four of them will never be all together, and the boys will still have some alone time. Well, with the usual evil monsters to fight, of course.
This doesn’t mean that this new season will be nothing but a new season of Supernatural, with nothing new. Far from it, actually. Consequences of last season’s finale will not be forgotten, as Krypte explains : “It’s war. We’re at war. Choose a side. It’s the end of the world. We feel this is the most exciting season yet. We feel this is the season to join the party.”
Whether you like it or not, things will change on the show. But it’s not coming from network orders, and not in the shape of a girl or two.
Now the question is, is that a good move. I personally am not a fan of the whole family story, despite its “importance” on the show. To me, the most enjoyable those when their dad was back, or the evil monster around. I actually didn’t enjoy those as much, and so, as pleased as I am to know the girls shouldn’t be a problem, I do have my doubts about this new “direction”.
I guess it’s just like The X-Files. The whole conspiracy plot was good, although Mulder’s sister part of it got boring after a while, but I always enjoyed more the episodes that only dealt with Mulder & Scully facing some kind of mystery.
Just like I like best my episodes of Supernatural when Sam & Dean are “saving people, hunting things”, but not involved in the whole family drama, or “I choosed you for a reason” monster thingy.
That’s right, I didn’t liked that whole thing of the finale that much. It was still a pretty good set of episodes, but not as good, IMO. Hopefully though, being at war don’t necessary mean be linked to their family drama, not with their very own personal monster of enemy.
And if they go a wrong way, all that matters if that most fans agree it’s a wrong way. Krypte isn’t promising not to make missteps, since any show does. But, according to him, “the difference between us and other shows, is when they make missteps, they say, ‘Go f— yourself.’ When we make missteps, we pay attention to the fans and we course correct.” (Wonder if the mention of “course correcting” is intended, but that reminds me of another show that does, too, pay attention to fans and fix ther missteps…)
“So, fans, I love you all, but stop worrying.” — Let’s do that, and patiently wait for the season premiere of Supernatural, on October 4th.
