The best season of Supernatural yet!

By fred | July 21, 2007

SupernaturalEver since they heard that two hot female characters would be introduced this new season of Supernatural, fans have started to freak out and wonder if their favorite show wasn’t loosing his path.

Series creator Eric Kripke had made a few statements trying to reensure fans that their show was not just being “sexed up” by the hands of the network, for the bad of the show.
Well, fans can now be finally happy, it seems Eric Kripke and his team do have things under control.

During an interview for TV Guide, series creator Eric Kripke addressed the controversy head-on and clearing the air about the changes, restoring faith into fans for what should be, in his own words, “the best season of Supernatural yet“.

After reensuring that they loved the fans and how passionate they were, he also explained that they too were loving the show for what it is, and for its dark side, and never intended to bring in girls just to attract new viewers, nor were they following network orders.

Truth is, they had already planned to introduce one new female character, Ruby. That wasn’t decided by the network, but by the writers. Then, CW President Dawn Ostroff did ask them if they could introduce another one female character.

Turned out that they already had “this great female character – the Bela character“, written in a script. And they loved the her so much already that bringing her back was part of their plan. They simply extended it, promoting her to regular.

As Kripke explained, “We were already introducing one [new character]. Ostroff wanted us to introduce two. And it’s of the producers’ own volition. We are not turning into One Tree Hill with monsters – I swear. I’d rather put a gun in my mouth. I understand everyone is nervous, but if they just hang in there, and watch the episodes, and watch how it turns out… we have not lost our head. We’re delivering what we feel is the best season of Supernatural yet.

This sounds definitely more reensuring than the previous comments made. The girls aren’t being brought in by network choice, and their characters were in fact already part of the scripts before any discussion.

And Kripke made sure to clear one other main issue : they will not be love interest for the brothers, as many feared. The two characters will be full on characters woming in with their own complex personalities and agendas. Kripke will introduce them “as their own fleshed out characters in their own right, who are raging pains in the ass, and trouble, and dangerous, and then sort of see what happens“.

Read here, that if there’s a chemistry between a girl and one brother, and if fans like that, a love connection might grow, with time. But nothing at first. Maybe not even this season.
