The “Anti-24″ ?

By fred | July 13, 2007

Preparing for The Shield to exit the network, FX if working on making sure it won’t lack of any (good) drama, having no less than six pilots in development, but no half-hour comedies. So much that, in fact, they will put a double dose of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia when it returns, September 13th.

On their list of dramas is The Patriot, by writer Steven Conrad (”Pursuit Of Happyness”). The show has been described as some sort of an “anti-24″, being about a government agent who has to deal with the actual day-to-day realities of trying to save the world, those exact realities Jack Bauer never bother with.

CTU PhoneI’m not sure what they intend to do exactly, but it’s a funny way to present thing: you know how 24 got ride of all realistic things that must be done to directly go to the action part, jump into torture/gunshots/explosion without all the bureaucratic BS ? Well, our show is the exact opposite of that!

You’ll see the anti-Bauer take his car and drive, while not being on the phone with the President to get some authorization. Then he won’t go after some terrorists or hi-jack a plane, instead he’ll just slowing get to work, grab a coffee, and then fill out some forms. That will take about 20 minutes.

Time for yet another coffee break, then a trip to the bathroom. Maybe grab something to eat, too, because we never see them do any of those thing in 24

OMG I just can’t wait for a show where they take how things happens for real, and, unlike 24 – which kept only the action part, not bothering with anything else, even some credibility – this time they’ll only keep the boring, unappealing things in.

Although I’m sure they can actually do a good show, using things more like on how to infiltrate some company, for you first need to pass their job interview. Still does not give you the chill, but it’s a little alreayd nevertheless.

Really, if that’s the only part of the process the show will focus on, it might be boring. And if it’s not, why the hell would you describe it as some kind of “anti-24″ ?
Unless this was just a way to intend that 24 is not a patriotic show…
