Television Critics actually do watch TV, and it shows!
By fred | July 22, 2007
During the 23rd Annual Television Critics Association Awards one thing was pretty clear : unlike Emmy voters who don’t watch TV and give out their votes based on popularity, and plain luck, the television critics do watch TV - shocker - and it shows!
(All nominees will be listed, in bold the winner of the award, in italic my vote)
Individual Achievement In Drama
Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights)
Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights)
Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
Hugh Laurie (House)
Helen Mirren (Prime Suspect)
It does not mean they’re perfect and I agree with all their choices, but it do means that they were able to recognize that, while Dexter might be a crapy show, Michael C. Hall’s performance is brilliant, and he therefore received a well deserved award for his work.
Outstanding Achievement In Drama
Friday Night Lights (NBC)
Heroes (NBC)
Lost (ABC)
The Sopranos (HBO)
The Wire (HBO)
It was obvious that The Sopranos would win this award, being the show that it is and, more important, being their last season. No surprise here, although I still don’t understand why Heroes was nominated, but…
Individual Achievement In Comedy
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report)
America Ferrera (Ugly Betty)
Tina Fey (30 Rock)
Jon Stewart (The Daily Show)
You can’t really disagree here, Alec Baldwin was simply hilarious on 30 Rock and we’re all glad that he’ll be back next season. The only way he could have not won was if Neil Patrick Harris had been nominated, sadly he wasn’t.
Outstanding Achievement In Comedy
30 Rock (NBC)
The Daily Show (Comedy Central)
Entourage (HBO)
The Office (NBC)
Ugly Betty (ABC)
Another one that you can’t disagree with. The Office is a brilliant show that not one let you down, and I can’t wait for it to come back. So much that I’m watching it all over again, it helps.
Unlike the Emmys the list of nominees doesn’t include unfunny stupid self-proclaimed sitcoms, but again How I Met Your Mother should be on that list!
Outstanding New Program Of The Year
30 Rock (NBC)
Dexter (Showtime)
Friday Night Lights (NBC)
Heroes (NBC)
Ugly Betty (ABC)
I’m not agreeing with the nominations, but at least they got the winner right. I personally have still not watched FNL so I don’t really know, but i keep hearing it’s great. And it was either Friday Night Lights or 30 Rock, anyways.
Program Of The Year
American Idol (Fox)
Friday Night Lights (NBC)
Heroes (NBC)
Planet Earth (Discovery)
The Wire (HBO)
When the Levees Broke (HBO)
Well, you had to see this coming, how could it not be Heroes after all its buzz & success.
Heritage Award
M*A*S*H (CBS)
Roots (ABC)
Sesame Street (PBS)
The Mary Tyler Moore Show (CBS)
The Sopranos (HBO)
You had this coming. Not that it’s not deserved, it is, but other shows didn’t stand a chance against The Sopranos leaving us with their last season. It just had to be them…
Outstanding Achievement Movies, Mini-Series And Specials
Broken Trail (AMC)
Planet Earth (Discovery)
Prime Suspect (PBS)
The State Within (BBC America)
When the Levees Broke (HBO)
Outstanding Achievement In Children’s Programming
Dora the Explorer (Nickelodeon)
Johnny and the Sprites (The Disney Channel)
Kyle XY (ABC Family)
Lincoln Heights (ABC Family)
SpongeBob Squarepants (Nickelodeon)
Outstanding Achievement In News & Information
Baghdad ER (HBO)
Bill Moyers Journal (PBS)
Galapagos (National Geographic)
Planet Earth (Discovery)
When the Levees Broke (HBO)
Also, Mary Tyler Moore received a Career Achievement Award.
