Supernatural losing Dean, soon to enter its final season !!!

By fred | May 26, 2008

SupernaturalSupernatural has been on for three years now, and like all shows you love, you probably don’t want it to stop, and wishes it could stay on for years and years to come. But all good things must come to an end, and while the show is still as strong as ever, we night not have so many years left to enjoy it.

Rewinding a little… Not so long ago, we all witnessed the Supernatural season 3 finale, leaving things unresolved to say the least. For a while now we had to face a dark promise, that after different deals done with demons, we were going to lose one of them.

Dean was doomed to die, he had only one year left before heading to Hell, losing his humanity and eventually turning into a demon himself. This didn’t look good, and creator Eric Kripke recently confirmed that Jensen Ackles was leaving the show…

Jensen wanted to focus on movies, and he wouldn’t give me the 25 percent salary kickback I demanded, so he’s leaving the series. Chad Michael Murray is joining the cast to replace him, and next year will be like that season on Dukes Of Hazzard where it was Vance and Coy instead of Bo and Luke. Everything’s gonna be a little bit off, but it’ll be good… I think you’ll like it.

Okay, there you have it. Obviously he was joking, and as we all know there’s just no way either one of the brother dies, or at least not before the very last episode of the series, because the show can’t work without either Dean or Sam. Don’t panic, Jensen Ackles isn’t going anywhere, and Dean won’t stay in Hell too long. Well, that last part I can’t be so sure, we might start back next season a while after we ended things this season, but I don’t think this will happen, not too long after anyways.

Now that the joke is out, let’s become serious : the show might only have two seasons left. In fact, if Kripke can have it his way, that’s exactly what will happen. And if you really love the show, you will campaign for the same as well !

Recently Kripke has been expressing his desire not to go any further than season five, not because they were running out of idea, not because they didn’t love working on the show, not because they stopped loving the show, but in fact because they never want not to love it as much as they do !!

We all know how networks have a bad habit to end a show after only one or two seasons - or episodes even at times! - and how it pisses fans off, with good reasons. But there is another way a network can ruin a show, and that is by dragging in on for too long. Obviously it doesn’t get the same reactions from fans, who simply tune away disgusted rather than starting campaign to see their favorite show canceled, though sometimes they probably should.

Because while seeing a great show you love being canned without giving it a real chance, before it could really grow and deliver all it had to offer, is really painful and frustrating at the very least, seeing a show you love go on for way too long, jumping the shark and turning into crap is about as depressing, if not more really.

I think that any good show should go out when it’s on top. Friends did it, and so did Seinfeld, and they’ll be in syndication forever!

Kripke knew and still knows where this story is heading, and if he says it’s 5 years, then I’ll be happy to have had such a wonderful 5 years.

This show is amazing, and so is it’s fandom. I think that most of us appreciate the genius of its creator, and trust him to know what’s best. At least we know well in advance, so we’re not disappointed when there’s no 6th season (and I won’t even entertain the thought that it wouldn’t get picked up for a 5th).

Not to be nit-picky, Fred, but it’s “losing” not “loosing” (the latter would be if you were, say, loosing your dogs on a burglar). Sorry, just a pet peeve :)

Glad you cleared up EK’s joke about CMM taking over the role of Dean, though. It was getting a bit old lol Thanks for the fun article!

    Thanks! :)

And yeah, I know it’s “losing” yet I keep making that stupid mistake over & over again, sorry. I really have to loose that “habbit”…
