Stop sending food!

I think we have Jericho fans to blame for this. Ever since they successfully got their favorite show back on the air for a few more episodes, now hoping producers won’t screw them over, fans of others shows have since then decided that, to get a show back, all it took was to send some kind of food to executives.
First we had Veronica Mars fans, sending Mars bars hoping that would be the argument the CW execs were waiting for to change their mind and not cancel the show. And now fans of The Black Donnellys are joining in.
The Black Donnellys is the show that NBC put on the air to replace Studio 60, once they took it off the air. But that was only to took the Donnelly’s brothers off the air as well later on. I wonder if TV execs get thrilled whenever they announce that they’ll take a show off the air. I bet they do, especially if the show was good, and with only a very few episodes that actually made it to the air.
That’s probably why they do it. That, or they actually expect a new TV show to do better when its pilot first airs than CSI does now.
Anyways; fans of the Donnelly’s are different than others, in that they are not sending food, Zesta crackers to be exact (chosen because they are featured in a lounge sign belonging to one of the show’s main characters), to NBC.
No, around 45,000 crackers are heading their way to HBO instead.
Why HBO?, you ask. Because they know NBC will not get the show on the air. Especially after releasing the remaining episodes on their website, episodes which did came to some sort on conclusion for the show.
Or, as they explain, because they think HBO is a better fit for the show, a drama about how a family of four Irish brothers will make their place into the organized crime.
While it is true they HBO might be a better fit, I doubt they will get the Donnelly’s back. Especially now that The Sopranos are over, because comparison would be made, and Tony and his crew would crash the Donnelly’s in a heartbeat.
I’m really not sure this new “sending food” way of protesting is any good, but turning to another channel is a nice move. If only there was a channel that would get all the canceled-too-soon shows and air them, fully, maybe even order new seasons, I’m sure it’d be praised by all TV fans.
And they would have some (great) shows to air. Like Daybreak, Drive, Six Degrees, Invasion, Studio60, The Black Donnellys, Veronica Mars, Jericho….
