Sorkin talks about Studio60 failure

Sorkin’s latest TV show, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, is now gone, canceled during its first season. And, just like pretty much the whole life of the show, this hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Studio60 was talked about, in bad or good ways, pretty much even before the first episode was ever written! And not just because it was a TV show about TV, and TV likes to talk about itself, but also because it was a show by Aaron Sorkin.
Now that it’s all over, things have cooled down a little, and in a recent article Sorkin discussed the reason of Studio60’s failure.
And if at first he seems to be taken responsibilities for it all, “I don’t know how to emphasize this enough that I’m not disappointed or upset with anyone but myself“, in the end it looks like he actually don’t really believe what he says, but that he blames the media treatment the show received.
Never does he question the show, the actual quality of its episodes, while that is - I believe - what really killed the show.
When Sorkin points out that because it was him, and his show, the was a lot of pressure on the show, it sounds as if he’s trying to find an excuse for making mistakes.
When a new show starts, most likely it won’t be perfect right away, mistakes will be made and there will be some time needed to make the required adjustments that will put the show in his very own place, finding its voice.
“There are only two possible reasons for Studio60 failing — it was either my fault or it was just one of those things. On some shows, you can make mistakes and still survive. But with this one, I made too many mistakes for it to survive.”
Funnily enough, those two reasons lead to the same person, him. Because if it is true that not all shows are given the same chances, Studio60 wasn’t in the most uncomfortable spot.
