Smallville’s Chloe switching side!

By fred | July 30, 2007

Allison MackAllison Mack has been portraying Clark Kent’s journalist of a friend ever since the show started. Things has evolved a little for her, she’s now actually working on The Daily Planet. And despite last season’s revelation that she was not just a girl, but in fact one of her very own “Krypto-freak”, there wasn’t really much happening new to her.

And maybe this played a part in Allison Mack’s decision to move herself to the other side of the camera, and make her directing debut on an episodeĀ of the next season of Smallville.

To me, when the show started - and despite Clark’s attraction for Lana - I thought as Chloe as the Lois Lane of his teen years. She was the (high school) journalist, finding out about the freaks and helping Clark in his fight against the Luthors, and she was a love interest as well. There was no Superman yet, so she was attracted to Clark directly, but still.

But Lana rules all over the love department, and now that Lois is around and getting more & more involved into journalism, and despite the recent revelation of Chloe’s freak power, it still wasn’t enough for Allison Mack.

She wanted more, she wanted to challenge herself, and do something new, learn something she’d never done before. So she decided to “branch out“, andĀ being a regular on a hit TV show helps, since she will make her directing debut with episode 20 of the next season of Smallville.

Obviously, she’s not alone there. It is Smallville after all, they won’t let her “try” out of the blue. “I know that I have eight months to prep and that I have the most amazing crew of people around me that will do everything in their power to help me make something awesome, but getting past that ego that drives me has been a huge challenge. Ignoring the voice inside my head that is screaming ”You have no clue how to do this!” has definitely been a challenge.

Mack admits she’s quite intimidated by the challenge, but as she starts preparing for it, working more & more “on building this skill in myself, the voice is starting to soften and I am actually really enjoying the process.

The Smallville episode that Mack is set to direct should air sometime in early May.
