Smallville Season 8, aka Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman ??
By fred | May 8, 2008
Not that Smallville is actually still as good as it once was, I mean let’s be honest : recent episodes have showed incredible lack of creativity, use and abuse of cliché-plots, not to mention product placement turned into full plots for entire episodes that looked more like bad commercials… with the lack of parents for Clack, and pretty much nothing actually taking place in Smallville anymore, clearly the show isn’t what it used to be.
But it could be a lot worse, oh yes it could : it could be next season.
It’s already known that for its eighth season, Smallville will have to do without its creators, who recently left the show. To go along with that, Lana will only be seen for a few episodes (not that it’ll make much of a difference, or that she’d be missed…) and the still-alive Luthor will be gone just like his father (except he won’t actually die), so Clark won’t even have his nemesis no more.
And now, rumor has it that Allison Mack’s very own Chloe could be leaving as well !
That’s right, if not so long ago Allison Mack was said to be returning (almost) full-time for another season of the show, now that almost everyone left, and since no contracts have been signed yet, things aren’t so certain anymore.
Smallville sources told TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello that “Allison’s camp used Michael [Rosenbaum] leaving as leverage in the negotiations with [Warner Bros.]“, adding that with Kristin Kreuk’s decision to only return for a handful of episodes definitely strengthened Mack’s bargaining position. “They need Chloe now more than ever — and Allison’s people know it.”
Now this begs the question : Will the studio cave in and pay whatever Mack is asking for to stay ? Can they actually afford to loose anyone else ? Because clearly if Chloe goes, then who’s left ? Well, Clark, that’s who. He’d be the only one from the original cast, and pretty much the only one still standing. As an insider noted, “If Allison leaves, they’ve essentially got Lois and Clark left. And that show’s been done before.”
Or maybe there’s another question there : Should Smallville still have an eighth season ? At this point, wouldn’t it be better to try to make a good ending that would please fans, while it’s still possible ? Either way, I think this is more good news for another show : Reaper. Whether Smallville is coming back next year or not, clearly The CW needs more shows to put on the air, and while Smallville is going down, it’s pretty obvious if you watch the show that Reaper is going up !
What’s your take on this : Should they give Mack what she wants, or let her go ? Can they afford one last season of Smallville with almost no one ? Do you even care at this point ?
