ABC’s Traveler did not get canceled this season. This is news, because pretty much all good new shows have been canceled after only a few episodes.
But when asked why the show, which had been ordered a first season of thirteen episodes, got shortened to only eight episodes - after no more than six actually made it to the air, here’s what ABC President Stephen McPherson had to say :
“We were disappointed in the way that that show was creatively developed, and [it] ended up being just not… not to the level that we thought it could succeed. And so it didn’t get the kind of support that, you know, we gave some other shows that we believed in a lot more.”
Did you laugh at this? I know I did. So they were disappointed in the creative ways of the show, because sure those people base their decision to cancel shows on creative and artistic points, not money goals and meaningless Nielsens ratings!
And what about the part where he says they do support show they believe in more!! Let’s not mention the very unique case that is Lost, which anyway wasn’t a new show, so what shows he is thinking of??
Is it The Nine ? Well, guess not. They took it off the air after only seven episodes, despite being a promising show and having seven more episodes fully produced.
So, is it Daybreak ? The show to air during Lost hiatus promoted as a show that would air till the end and give viewers all answers. The show the told viewers to tune in because it would go all the way and they would get answers to all its mysteries.
No wait, they took it off the air after no more than six episodes. So they were even more disappointed by its creative development, I guess.
No really, do they think that because that have Lost and have already signed for four more seasons of 16 episodes each, they can do whatever they want with any other shows, and we’re to believe they care about creative development and artistic choices, and can’t be pissed at them?
